Islah for muslim youths regarding social media
Perhaps from the scariest things for a Muslim who posts a benefit on social media is coming across a narration like this:
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān bin Mahdī reported that he heard Sufyān (al-Thawrī) say:
“There is not a single ḥadīth of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ that has reached me except that I acted upon it, even if only once.”
[adh-Dhahabī, Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ 7/242]
When the mufasirīn explain the āyah:
{The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have earned [Your] anger or of those who are astray}
[Al-Qur'ān 1:7]
They mention that those who earned Allāh’s Anger were al-Yahūd (ie: Jews). That is because they collected knowledge, archived it, buried it, and never acted upon it. And perhaps, may Allāh protect us from it, but this is where we are headed. Mindlessly posting benefits on social media, with a hidden desire to gain followers and subscribers. Perhaps to build a brand. Seeking leadership without realizing it. All the while the number of posts and subscribers increased, our actions have decreased. Our acts of worship have been disproportionate to the number of shares on each post. And perhaps the sins we have accumulated through our hypocrisy is symmetric to the number of followers we obtained due to having no sincerity in the process.
May Allāh forgive us.
