The Virtue of Invoking Peace and Blessings on the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Fridays

The Significance of Friday Prayers for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

INVOCATION OF PEACE AND BLESSINGS UPON THE PROPHET ﷺ IN ABUNDANCE ON FRIDAY

Aus ibn Aus reports that the Prophet ﷺ said: "The most virtuous of your days is Jumu'ah. On that day, Adam was created and on that day he died, (on that day) the horn will be blown and the people will be dumbfounded! Increase your prayers upon me as your prayers upon me will be presented to me." The people said: "O Messenger of ALLĀH, how will our prayers be presented to you when you have passed away?" He said: "ALLĀH has prohibited the earth from eating the bodies of the Prophets."

{This is related by the five, except for al-Tirmidhi}

Ibn al-Qayyim (May ALLĀH have mercy on him) says:

"It is preferred to pray to ALLĀH to send blessings on the Prophet ﷺ during the day and night of Jumuah, as the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Invoke many prayers upon me during the day and night of Friday.'

"The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ is the leader of mankind, and Jumu'ah is the best of the days of the week. Prayers upon him during that day are a privilege (he deserves), which belongs to no one other than him.

"This act also has another wisdom, and that is that all of the good that has passed onto this Ummah, in this life and the Hereafter, has passed through him. ALLĀH has gathered the good of this life and the next life for this Ummah, and the greatest honor and success will be granted to them on Friday. On that day, they will be granted their houses and palaces in Paradise and that is the day they will be given more when they enter Paradise. It is a day of celebration for them in this life. It is also a day in which ALLĀH fulfills their needs and answers their prayers and requests in this world. They are aware of all of that and are able to attain it because of the Prophet ﷺ and it is through him (that they received these teachings); therefore, in gratitude and appreciation for the great blessings we received through him, we should send many prayers upon him during the day and night of Jumuʿah."

{Fiqh-us-Sunnah || 2/126}

May ALLĀH fill our hearts with love of His beloved Prophet ﷺ.  May HE inspire our tongues to send much blessings on him ﷺ and guide us to lead our lives in accordance to his exalted and noble Sunnah.

SUPPLICATION IS ACCEPTED ON FRIDAY

SUPPLICATION IS ACCEPTED ON FRIDAY

Abū Hurayrah reported: The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) said:

"The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday... and it contains a time at which, no Muslim prays and asks anything from ALLĀH, but HE will give it to him."

Ka'b said, "That is one day every year.'

So I said, 'It is on every Friday!

Ka'b read the Torah and said, "The Apostle of ALLĀH has spoken the truth."

Abū Hurayrah said, "I met 'Abdullāh ibn Salām and told him of my meeting with Ka'b.

'Abdullāh ibn Salām said, 'I know what time it is.'

I asked him to tell me about it. 'Abdullāh ibn Salām said, 'It is at the very end of Friday!'

I asked, 'How can it be, when the Apostle of ALLĀH has said, "No Muslim finds it while he is praying..." and this is the moment when no prayer is offered?'

'Abdullaah ibn Salām said, 'Has the Apostle of ALLĀH not said, "If anyone is seated waiting for the prayer, he is engaged in the prayer until he observes it.""

I said, 'Yes, it is so!"

{Sunan Abī Dawūd #1046}

Jaabir ibn 'Abdullāh narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"Friday is divided into twelve hours. Amongst them there is an hour in which, a Muslim does not ask ALLĀH for anything but HE gives it to him. So seek it in the last hour after the afternoon prayer."

{Sunan Abī Dawud #1048}

'Abdullāh ibn Salām is reported to have said, "I said while ALLĀH'S Messenger was sitting, 'We certainly find in ALLĀH'S Book (al-Qur'ān): There is an hour on Friday which, a believing man does not coincide with, while he is observing prayer begging of ALLĀH some thing, but his need is met with."

'Abdullāh said, "The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) pointed to me, saying: ‘Or some part of an hour.’

I said: ‘you are right, or some part of an hour.’

I said: ‘What time is that?’

He (ﷺ) said: ‘It is the last hours of the day.’

I said: ‘It is not the time of the prayer?’

He (ﷺ) said: ‘Yes (it is so), when a believing slave performs prayer and then sits with nothing but the prayer keeping him, he is still in a state of prayer.’

{Ibn Mājah #1139}

There is a great deal of difference of opinion among the scholars as to exactly when this hour occurs. The strongest opinion is, that this hour is at the very end of the day before sunset. The second most acceptable opinion is, that this hour should be considered as hidden like Laylatul Qadr, and the whole day should be spent in supplication and glorification of ALLĀH. And the third most acceptable opinion is, that this hour is found during the period when the Imaam is seated (for giving Friday sermon) until the Prayer is finished as is mentioned in the hadith.

The purpose of hiding this moment on Friday is, that people should remain engaged in supplication and prayer all day long. Had it been explained, people would not have made efforts in seeking it.

Do not raise hands during dua on Friday Khutbah:

Do not raise hands during dua on Friday Khutbah

It was narrated with regard to the khateeb on Fridays that when he makes du’aa’ on the minbar, he should point with his forefinger only and not raise his hands. Indeed some of the Sahaabah denounced the khateeb who raises his hands in du’aa’.

Muslim (874) and Abu Dawood (1104) narrated that ‘Umaarah ibn Ru’aybah saw Bishr ibn Marwaan on the minbar raising his hands (Abu Dawood added: when he was making du’aa’ on Friday), and he said: “May Allaah make these two hands ugly. I saw the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) doing no more than this with his hand,” and he gestured with his forefinger.

Al-Nawawi said:

This indicates that the Sunnah is not to raise the hands during the khutbah, This is the view of Maalik and our companions and others.

What is the timing of supplication, which will be answered on Friday

The supplication, which will be answered on Friday

There are different opinions about the time of the supplication which will be answered on Friday. The two strongest views are as follows:

 ▪️ 1) The time is from the moment the Imam begins preaching until the end of Friday prayer.

 ▪️ 2) The last hour before the evening prayer (Al-Maghrib)

 ➡️ Proof of 1st opinion:

 Abu Hurayrah - may Allah be pleased with him - reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned Friday and then said:
 "There is an hour in it that no Muslim servant reaches while praying and asking Allah - the Mighty and Allmighty - for something, except that He grants him this." And he pointed with his hand and reduced it (the time) .
 📗 [reported from Al-Bukhari by Muslim]

 And the following hadith:
Abu Burdah narrated from his father - may Allah be pleased with him - who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
"It (this hour) is between the time the Imam sits down to the time the prayer is performed."

 ➡️ The evidence for the 2nd opinion:

The hadith of 'Abdullah Ibn Salam, narrated by Ibn Mājah, and Jābir, narrated by Abu Dawud and An-Nasāi, states that it is (the time) between the afternoon prayer and the sunset.

There is no Sunnah before Jumu‘ah, like ‘Isha’ and Maghrib, and also like

There is no Sunnah before Jumu‘ah, like ‘Isha’ and Maghrib, and also like

Is there any sunnah before Friday

Imām Abū Shāmah discussed these two issues: that there is no regular Sunnah prayer before Jumu‘ah and that it is prescribed to offer voluntary prayers before Jumu‘ah prayer until the imām comes out.

He raḥimahullāh said:

People usually pray between the two adhāns on Friday, offering nāfil prayers of two or four rak‘ahs, and so on, until the imām comes out. That is permissible and it is not a problem from the point of view of it being prayer.

Rather the problem is what the common folk and most of those who think of themselves as knowledgeable believe, that it is a Sunnah prayer before Jumu‘ah, as they pray Sunnah before Dhuhr, and they declare their intention that it is the Sunnah of Jumu‘ah, and offer their own reasoning for this view, based on the idea that if we say that Jumu‘ah is a shortened form of Dhuhr, then it has the same as Dhuhr (Sunnah prayers before and after, and so on).

None of that is based on a proper examination of the issue. There is no Sunnah before Jumu‘ah, like ‘Isha’ and Maghrib, and also like ‘Asr according to one opinion, which is the correct opinion according to some of them. It is a prayer that is like no other, with its own merits.

The evidence that there is no Sunnah before it is that what is meant when we describe a prayer as being “Sunnah” is that it is based on words or actions narrated from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. There is no report from the Prophet ﷺ to indicate that the prayer before Jumu‘ah is Sunnah, and it is not possible to draw an analogy between prayers.

I did not ask Allāh for anything between ‘Asr and Maghrib on Friday

 One of the righteous said:

“I did not ask Allāh for anything between ‘Asr and Maghrib on Friday except that my Lord responded to me up until I felt shy (to ask for more).”

Al-Mufaḍal ibn faḍālah would offer ‘Asr prayer on Friday then isolate himself in a corner of the masjid and continue to supplicate until sunset.

[Akhbār Al-Quḍā' (3/238)]

Likewise Sa'ēd ibn Jubair would offer the ‘Asr prayer and avoid speaking to others until sunset (i.e. He would busy himself with supplicating)

“Friday is the day when the people of Paradise will receive the ever-increasing reward.

It is the day when they will see Allah, the Exalted.

Those who were the earliest to go to the mosque on Friday will be the first to receive this honor.

Greatest authentic hadith on the virtues of deeds

Greatest authentic hadith on the virtues of deeds

Friday reminder:

Jumu'ah is most people's favourite day of the week; the evil doers yearn for it to satisfy their desires while the good doers long for it to please The Almighty.

The following is an abridged translation of a benefit transmitted by Sheikh Faysal Al-Hashidi May Allah preserve him

Do you want the reward of fasting & praying hundreds of years in just a few minutes?!

If so, read the greatest authentic hadith on the virtues of deeds; a hadeeth which the people of knowledge said about it: “We do not know a hadith of the Prophet ﷺ more rewarding than this hadith.”

Imam At-Tirmidhi rahimahullah said: “Some of the Imams said, we have not heard a Saheeh Hadeeth in the Shari’ah that includes such a reward.”

[Tuhfatul Ahwadhi (3/5)]

Ibnul Hajar Al-Haythami May Allah have mercy on him said:

 “It was said there is nothing authentic in the Sunnah than contains more reward than this, so let one pay attention to it.”

[Tuhfat al-Muhtaaj (2/471)]

Here's the Hadeeth:

On the authority of Aws ibn Aws Ath-Thaqafi (radhiyallahu anhu) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying:

“Whoever takes a complete bath on Friday then goes very early to the Khutbah, walking and not riding, sits close to the Imam, listens and does not speak or keep himself busy then for every step is the reward equivalent to a year of fasting and praying.”

[Collected by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi; authenticated by Sheikh Albani in Saheeh Al-Jaami' As-Sagheer' no. 6405]

📘Narrated by Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) said, "Any person who takes a bath on Friday like the bath of Janaba and then goes for the prayer (in the first hour i.e. early), it is as if he had sacrificed a camel (in Allah's cause); and whoever goes in the second hour it is as if he had sacrificed a cow; and whoever goes in the third hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a horned ram; and if one goes in the fourth hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour then it is as if he had offered an egg. When the Imam comes out (i.e. starts delivering the Khutba), the angels present themselves to listen to the Khutba."

📘Narrated by Salman-Al-Farsi:

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumua prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven."
