What Does It Mean to Be a Man in Islam?

How to Be a Good Husband and Father in Islam: The Islamic Teachings on Manhood and Family

Man up!

If you expect your woman, your wife that is, to have to go out and work in order to bring the money home, then your masculinity is deficient.

What do you want?  You want to go out and work and that she does the same so that you can earn a double income?  And for what?

To afford that heavy Ḥarām mortgage payment on a house which is much larger than your needs and way beyond your means to begin with?

To afford the monthly payments on those three cars on the driveway?

To afford a lavish lifestyle in order to compete with and be better than others?

Worse, some men think that it is OK for them to sit home while their women are out working.

What sort of caretaker are you if you do any of the above?  One of the reasons for the Qiwāmah which Allāh has given to men over women is due to what men spend of their wealth.

How is your woman going to trust you if you don't fulfill the very basics and make her feel secure in your own house?

She was respected and cared for by her father before she came into your house.  Don't marry her in order to humiliate her and make her labour her way into the rough workforce and mix with strange men.

And don't expect any good to come out of this for your children either.  They need their mother to be home for them.  Her primary role is a wife and mother, don't be the reason to compromise this noble role which Allāh has given her.
