The Caliphate of 'Umar Bin 'Abd al-Azīz (May Allah have mercy upon him) | History of Islam
Imām Ibn Kathir, (May Allah have mercy on him), writes:
" 'Umar bin 'Abd al-azīz tried his best to deliver the right to every needy person during his short caliphate.
During his time, an announcer used to make rounds calling: "Where are the people stuck in debt? Where are the people looking for marriage? Where are the poor and the orphans? So that the needs of all of them are met."
A person in charge of distributing Zakah wrote to Umar bin 'Abd al-Azīz, that, "there is a lot of wealth in the treasury, what should be done?
So 'Umar bin 'Abd al-Azīz replied: "Look out in your area, if there's someone who wants to get married, but does not have the financial resources, then get him married."
After some time the Incharge wrote back:
"I have married every poor and needy person, still there is much wealth left..."
