Do not think that sincerity (ikhlas) is easy

 قال الشيخ محمد بن صالح العثيمين رحمه الله:

Sheikh Muhammad bin Sāleh al-Uthaymin رحمه الله said:

‏ الإخلاص لا تظن أنه سهل،

“Do not think that ikhlās (sincerity) is easy,

بل إن الإخلاص من أشق الأشياء على النفوس،

but rather it is one of the hardest things on the souls,

ولهذا كان من قال: "لا إله إلا الله" خالصة من قلبه دخل الجنة،

and this is why whoever says ‘there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah’ sincerely from his heart enters jannah,

فالمسألة خطيرة للغاية؛ 

so the matter is very dangerous,

ولهذا يجب علينا أن نفتش عن قلوبنا،

and this is why we have to investigate our hearts;

هل نحن مخلصون في أعمالنا، في عبادتنا، في طلبنا للعلم، في كل أحوالنا؟

are we sincere in our actions, in our acts of worship, in our seeking of knowledge, and in all of our situations?”
