Surah Aal-Imran verse 30 explanation
Let's ponder the following verse:
* ✅ * ✅ * ✅ *
[Aal-Imran: 30]
The translation of its meaning is:
👉 "The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants." 👈
* ✅ * ✅ * ✅ *
The first part of the verse gives us tremendous hope because any "good" we perform will be recorded for us and presented on the Day of Judgment, as Allah says:
👉 "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it" 👈
(Al-Zalzalah: 7).
The word "good" (i.e. good deed) is a comprehensive term for anything which will bring us closer to Allah. It must be for Allah only and be in accordance with the guidance of the Prophet (ﷺ) on that topic.

The second part of the verse instills in us a fear that any "evil" we do will be recorded and will be brought in front of us. Allah says:
👉 "And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it." 👈
(Az-Zalzalah: 8)
The word "evil" (i.e. evil deed) is a comprehensive term for anything which displeases and angers Allah.

The third part of the verse should make us really scared because the evildoer will wish on the Day of Judgment that there is a huge distance between them and their evils.
Compare this to the attitude of some people towards evil in this world, where they enjoy evil deeds and evil company.

The verse finishes off by combining fear and hope. Firstly to fear Allah and then, so that people do not despair of His Mercy, Allah mentions that He is kind with all of us.
Hasan Basri (may Allah have mercy upon him) said that it is actually due to Allah's mercy that He warned us to fear Him such that we take heed and avoid evil.
