HĀJIB AL-MANSŪR AND THE OLD WOMAN | ISLAMIC HISTORY

Once Ummayad military commander Hajib al-Mansūr (Almanzor) was returning to Cordoba after his decisive victory over the Spaniards. His return coincided with the Eid al-Adha prayer and the Muslims were making takbeer and cheering around. Before he could dismount from his horse to offer prayer, an old woman intercepted him and said to him with a broken and weeping heart,

"Mansur, all people are happy except me."

Mansour replied, "Why?"

She said, "How can I rejoice when my Son is a prisoner of the Crusaders in Fort Rabah."

Hajib al-Mansūr knew the responsibility placed on his shoulder towards Islam and Ummah. Al-Mansūr who was not yet dismounted from his horse, immediately twisted the neck of his horse and calls out to his army that no one dismounts from his horse. Then he sets off on his way to Fort Rabah and launches a fierce attack on them until he forced them to release all Muslim prisoners in return for stopping the attack. After the fighting stopped, the muslims were released and the old woman got his Son back.
