How the believers are supposed to view life in this world
From ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took me by the shoulder and said,“Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a wayfarer.”
Ibn ‘Umar (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) used to say,
“In the evening do not expect [to live until] the morning, and in the morning do not expect [to live until] the evening. Take [advantage of] your health before times of sickness, and [take advantage of] your life before your death.” [Bukhārī]
This ḥadīth is among the concise yet comprehensive sayings of the Prophet ﷺ that convey extremely deep and profound meanings.
The Prophet ﷺ is describing how the believers are supposed to view life in this world.
It is a very powerful reminder that the life of this world is short, temporary, and fleeting and that the life of the hereafter is eternal. It is a powerful and eloquent reminder to prepare for the Day that neither wealth nor family will benefit except for one who comes with a pure heart. It is described as a very noble ḥadīth, great in status, full of lessons, reminders, and morals.
