The scariest verses in the Qur'an are those when Allah speaks about punishing a persons heart.

When you've transgressed so much that a lock is placed upon your heart, or hypocrisy enters it causing you to meet your Lord as a hypocrite. Allah comes between a person and their heart

These verses are also severe reminders that you don't own anything. Not even your own heart.

Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us. Grant us Your mercy. You are indeed the Giver ˹of all bounties
