Nawafil: The Best Way to Please Allah
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Allah the Exalted has said: 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved thing with which My slave comes nearer to Me is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (prayer or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him.
When I love him I become his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks (something) from Me, I give him, and if he asks My Protection (refuge), I protect him".
[Al- Bukhari].
May "We" be among those slaves whom Allah loves!!
This hadith is a beautiful reminder of Allah's love for His servants and His willingness to reward those who draw closer to Him. It also teaches us that the best way to please Allah is to fulfill our obligatory duties and then to go beyond that by performing voluntary acts of worship.
When we perform nawafil, or voluntary acts of worship, we are showing Allah that we love Him and that we are willing to put in the extra effort to please Him. This pleases Allah greatly, and He draws closer to us in return.
The hadith also tells us that when Allah loves us, He becomes our hearing, our seeing, our hand, and our leg. This means that He will help us to do what is right and to avoid what is wrong. He will also protect us from harm.
This is a wonderful promise from Allah, and it should motivate us to strive to earn His love. We can do this by fulfilling our obligatory duties, performing nawafil, and being kind to others.
Here are some specific ways to draw closer to Allah through nawafil:
Praying extra prayers, such as tahajjud or qiyaam al-layl.
Reading the Quran and reflecting on its meaning.
Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.
Giving charity to those in need.
Helping others and doing good deeds.
Making dua and asking Allah for His guidance and help.
These are just a few examples of nawafil that we can perform to draw closer to Allah. The most important thing is to be sincere in our worship and to do it with the intention of pleasing Allah.
If we do this, Allah will surely love us and reward us abundantly.
