Du'a: The Essence of Worship

DU‘Ā, THE ESSENCE OF WORSHIP

EPISODE 5⃣: Some reasons behind no/delayed response - PART A
➖➖➖
One of the greatest trials a Muslim can face is to make du‘ā without getting a response in any form.

A number of factors contribute to that, and some of them shall be mentioned below In'Shaa'Allaah.

1️⃣ When the du‘ā is for something which is not permitted to ask for.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "A person's du‘ās will continue to be answered so long as he does not pray for something sinful or for the breaking of family ties."
(Muslim, 7705)

2️⃣ Not commanding good and forbidding evil.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! Either you command good and forbid evil, or Allaah will soon send upon you a punishment from Him, then you will call upon Him, but He will not respond to you."
(Tirmidhi 2169)

3️⃣ Sinning.
When a person sins, or is following bid'ah (innovation) in religion, or his heart has been overtaken by negligence.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "A man is deprived of provision because of the sins that he commits."
(Ibn Maajah, 4022)

4️⃣ Consuming haraam wealth.

This is one of the major things that prevent du‘ās from being answered.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O people, Allaah is Good and only accepts that which is good. Allaah commanded the pious to follow the same commandments as He gave to the Messengers..."

"Then he mentioned a man who has travelled on a long journey and is dishevelled and covered with dust; he stretches forth his hands to the heaven, (saying) O Lord, O Lord, but his food is haraam, his drink is haraam, all his nourishment is haraam, so how can he du‘ā be accepted?"
(Muslim, 1015)

The man described had some of the characteristics which help du‘ās to be answered, but the fact that he consumed haraam wealth prevented his du‘ā from being answered.

To be continued, In'sha'Allāh
