DHIKR: A Powerful Tool for Connecting with Allah and Purifying Your Heart
Dhikr will save you from regret:The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “No people leave a gathering in which they did not remember Allah, the Almighty, except that it will be as if they are leaving the carcass of a donkey; and it will be a cause of regret for them.” (Abū Dāwūd)
He ﷺ also said: “The people of Paradise will not regret anything, except for those moments in which they did not remember Allah.” (Ṭabarānī)
ʿAmr b. ʿAbdillāh said: “On the Day of Judgement, when the veil revealing the rewards of actions is lifted, people will not see any action with greater reward than dhikr. Then, some people will feel regret and say: ‘There was nothing easier for us than doing dhikr.’”
Here are some tips for making dhikr a regular part of our lives:
Set aside a specific time each day for dhikr, even if it is just for a few minutes.
Find a quiet place where you can focus and avoid distractions.
Choose a dhikr that you enjoy and that has meaning to you.
Repeat the dhikr slowly and thoughtfully, reflecting on the meaning of the words.
Be sincere and humble in your dhikr, and ask Allah to accept it from you.
Here are some examples of dhikr:
- Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah)
- Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah)
- Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
- La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah)
- Astaghfirullah (I seek Allah's forgiveness)
- La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (There is no power or might except with Allah)
May Allah help us to make dhikr a regular part of our lives and to reap the many benefits that it has to offer.
