Biography of the UMM DHARR
was the wife of Abu Dharr.
She embraced Islam during the early days with her husband.
Ibrahim bin al-Asyar narrated from his father that Umm Dharr said,
"When death approached Abu Dharr, I cried.
He said, 'Why are you crying?'
I said, 'You are large enough dying in the desert and I don't even have a garment to cover you with.'
He said, 'I give you glad tidings, so don't cry.
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying to a group of men while I was among them,
"A man from amongst you will die in the desert and his death will be witnessed by a group of believers."
All of the men in the gathering that day died in a village, and I am the only one remaining.
I have not lied nor was I lied to, so go to the road and look for those men.'
I said, "The pilgrims for Hajj have already gone and the road has been blocked.'
Abu Dharr said, Go to the road and look for the men.'
I went to the dune to look and then I returned, and he had become sicker.
"As we were in this state, all of a sudden, some men appeared on their riding beasts as though they were clouds.
I motioned to them and they hurried to me until they reached me.
They said, 'O female servant of Allah, what is the matter?'
I said, 'A Muslim is near death and he needs to be shrouded.'
They said, 'Who is he?'
I said, 'Abu Dharr.'
They said, "The Companion of the Messenger of Allah?'
I replied in the affirmative.
They hurried to him and entered upon him. Abu Dharr said to them, 'I give you glad tidings I heard the Messenger of Allah say, "A man from amongst you will die in the desert and a group of believers will witness."
I was present in this s group, and everyone else who was present in that gathering has died, and I am the only one remaining.
I did not lie nor was I lied to.
I do not have enough clothing to cover me and my wife.
Thus, I implore you, by Allah I do not want a garment from a man among you if he is a ruler, corporal, courier, or monk."
There was only one young man among them who fit this description.
He said, 'I will cover you with my waist wrap, O uncle, this garment was sewn with the thread of my mother.'
Abu Dharr said, 'You are the one to shroud me.'
Thus, the young man provided the shroud, and all the men buried him when he died."
