Islamic Perspectives on Women's Empowerment: Balancing Faith and Contemporary Challenges

Zayd bin Thabit - may Allah have mercy on him - said:

 “The husband is the Sayyid (ie: master) in the Book of Allah”.and he read His words: {They found her master (sayyidahā) at the door (ie: her husband)} [12:25].

And ʿUmar bin al-Khattab -may Allah have mercy on him - said:

 “Marriage is a form of servitude (slavery). So let each one of you consider to whom he entrusts his daughter (in servitude).”

And in al-Tirmidhi and others, it is reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: “Treat your women well; they are like captives in your hands.”
وَفِي التِّرْمِذِيِّ وَغَيْرِهِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: {اسْتَوْصُوا بِالنِّسَاءِ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّمَا هُنَّ عِنْدَكُمْ عَوَانٌ}

The woman, in the presence of her husband, resembles a slave and a captive.

Therefore, she should not leave his house without his permission, even if her father or mother or anyone other than her parents instruct her to do so, according to the consensus of al-aʿimmah (ie: the scholars).
