Follow the Quran and sunnah with the understanding of the salaf.
In today’s world we are laymen when it comes to understanding the deen or engaging in debate with others. As the prophet ﷺ said ❛ scholars are inheritors of the Prophets❜ so if we are confused about Hadith or Quran verses we take their (salaf) understanding and move on. Too many so-called scholars on social media nowadays are watering down the deen in ways to get mass followers and confuse people.
●When the scholars are abandoned or they pass away, people turn to the ignorant ones, the pretenders and Ahlul-Bid’ah who lead the people into ruin.
🔹Ibn Mas’ūd said, ❝Learn knowledge before it is taken away, and it is taken away by the death of the scholars. Beware of going extremes and delving too deeply, and beware of innovations. Upon you is to adhere to the ancient affair.❞
📖 (See Ad-Dārimī with the explanation, Fathul-Mannān 2/115, Al-Musannaf of Abdur-Razzāq 11/252, Jāmi’ Bayān Al-‘Ilm wa Fadlihi 1/152, Al-‘Amr bil-Ittibā’ p. 59)
🔹Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ):
❝You are today in a time of many Scholars and few speakers. So whoever abandons even a tenth of what he knows is ruined. There will come after that a time of many [ignorant] speakers wherein the Scholars are few. So whoever holds fast to even a tenth of what he knows will be saved.❞ 📖 (Sahīh, reported by At-Tirmidhī no. 2267)
●We see many people speak about matters that will take years to study doing it in few seconds of video on TikTok without any evidence from the Quran and sunnah and no one questions them about the sources except for few people. Everyone else runs with it and share with others without understanding.
🔹Saʿīd b. Abī ʿArūbah – Allāh have mercy on him – said:
❝Whoever has not heard the differences of opinion, then do not consider him a scholar.❞
📖 (Ibn ʿAbd Al-Barr, Jāmiʿ Bayān Al-ʿIlm wa Faḍlihī no. 1521)
🔹Imām Mālik – Allāh have mercy on him – was asked:
"Which kind of person is allowed to give verdicts (fatwā)?”
He replied,
"It is not allowed to give verdicts except for the person who knows what people have differed over.” He was asked,
“Do you mean the differences of
the people of (mere) opinions?” He replied,
❛No, the different opinions of the Companions of Muḥammad ﷺ, and the one who also knows the abrogating from the abrogated [texts] in the Qurān and in the ḥadīth of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ – such a person can give fatwā.❜ 📖 (Op. cit. 1529)
🔹Yaḥyā b. Sallām – Allāh have mercy on him – said:
❛It is not right for the one who does not know differences of opinion to give verdicts, & it is not allowed for the one who does not know about the various statements [of the scholars] to say: I prefer such- and-such opinion.❜ 📖 (Op. cit. 1534)
🔹All the salaf agree upon that saying:
❛The statements I do not know and Allah knows best is one half of knowledge.❜
