📥Question:
Did any of the people of knowledge say that fasting the day of Arafah expiates the major sins also?
📤Answer:
Yes, they said! Concerning the day of Arafah for other than the one performing Hajj, and concerning fasting the day of Aāshūrah, and Ramadhān with the six days of Shawwāl is as if he fasted the entire year, and concerning wudhū his sins will fall and concerning walking to the masājid, is from the expiators, and waiting for the prayer after a prayer, and the rest of what they mentioned from the expiators, they said that it includes the major sins.
If Allāh pardons a servant He adds those major sins into what He wishes to pardon, otherwise (usually) major sins require repentance, so if repentance is paired with those actions, and also Hajj nullifies what occurred before (of sins), Islām nullifies what occurred before it, if it was to be paired with repentance, what a blessing, and those (major sins) are expiated, and if it is not paired with repentance then they are still open for forgiveness, major and minor sins are open for forgiveness, and the foundation is that those are an expiation for the minor sins alongside the majority of scholars, but they are open for forgiveness.
