Moments when life is most difficult and you are totally thrown for a loop
Bearing Calamity With Patience and Du'aALLĀH سبحانه وتعالى says:
Those who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to ALLĀH, and indeed to HIM we will return."Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy; and it is those who are the [rightly] guided. [Al-Baqarah 2:156-157]
If you’ve lost something precious, or if disaster has hit you, and you respond with faith in ALLĀH (سبحانه وتعالى), asking HIM to replace your loss with something better, then HE will surely respond and give you something better.
It was narrated from Umm Salamah (رضي الله عنها) that Abu Salamah (رضي الله عنه) told her that he heard the Messenger of ALLAAH (صلى الله عليه وسلم) say:
"There is no Muslim who is stricken with a calamity and reacts by saying as ALLAAH (سبحانه وتعالى) has commanded:
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ احْتَسَبْتُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا وَعُضْنِي مِنْهَا
"Inna lillahi, wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma indakah-tasabtu musibati, fajurni iha, wa "awwidni minha (Truly, to ALLAAH we belong and truly, to HIM we shall return. O ALLAAH, with YOU I seek reward for my calamity, so reward me for it and compensate me),' but ALLAAH will reward him for that and compensate him with something better than it."
She said: "When Abu Salamah died, I remembered what he had told me from the Messenger of ALLAAH (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and I said: "Inna lillahi, wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma indakah-tasabtu musibati, fajurni ihaiha (Truly, to ALLAAH we belong and truly, to HIM we shall return. O ALLAAH, with YOU I seek reward for my calamity, so reward me for it).'
But when I wanted to say wa "awwidni minha (and compensate me with better), I said to myself: "How can I be compensated with something better than Abu Salamah?' Then I said it, and ALLAAH compensated me with Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and rewarded me for my calamity."
[Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 1, Book 6, Hadith 1598]
SubhanAllāh! What more could we ask? ALLĀH (سبحانه وتعالى) is the only one who does this.
The whole point is that in those moments when life is most difficult and you are totally thrown for a loop, you respond by turning to ALLĀH (سبحانه وتعالى). That’s the test. Those moments are the proving ground of your soul. If you can face ALLĀH (سبحانه وتعالى) in those moments of agony and say – I trust YOU, all things return to YOU, I know you will give me something better – then indeed ALLĀH (سبحانه وتعالى) will give you more than you can imagine.
May ALLĀH (سبحانه وتعالى) give us the strength to remember HIM and turn to HIM instinctively during moment of calamity and moment of joy. Aameen.
