RAMADĀN PREPARATION SERIES PART 1

RAMADĀN PREPARATION SERIES

Part 1: Excellence and Virtues of The Month of Ramadān

The blessed month of Ramadān is almost here, Alhamdulillah! We need to start getting ready before it’s too late. When will it be too late? It might be too late on the first day of Ramadān!

Some of the Salaf used to prepare six months in advance. So, if we want to make the best of this Ramadān, then we need to prepare for it now!

We can’t go from a life of doing just the basics of Islam to suddenly fasting and making extra prayers and reciting the Qur'an all day long and overnight. If we try to do that, most of us will burn out within the first week.

One of the most important ways of getting prepared for the fast of Ramadān is to learn about Ramadān by reading books, listening to lectures, or attending classes to deepen our understanding of the month and its significance.

Ramadān is bestowed with loads of virtues and it's important to narrate some of these excellences and virtues.

Knowledge of the virtues will develop the understanding of the value and importance of this blessed month, creating enthusiasm and eagerness, which in turn will result, Insha Allāh, in the proper fulfillment of the laws, etiquette, and demands of Ramadān.

ALLĀH says:

Believers! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become pious. [al-Baqarah 2:183].

So the wisdom behind the obligation of fasting is to gain piety of ALLĀH alone by doing much of what HE has ordered and avoiding what HE has prohibited. It is an occasion to become closer to ALLĀH and strengthen the relationship with HIM.

Ramadān is the month to revive and strengthen emaan. The doors of mercy are wide open and the doors of ALLĀH punishment are firmly closed. The forces of evil, shayateen are chained up. Nothing stands between us and success except our following of desires.

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

• There has come to you Ramadān, a blessed month which ALLĀH has enjoined you to fast, during which the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the rebellious devils are chained up. In it there is a night which is better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived. [An-Nasaa’i]

• Whoever spends the nights of Ramadān in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. [Bukhari & Muslim]

. Whoever fasts Ramadān out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. [Bukhari & Muslim]

• Whoever prays qiyaam (taraweeh) with the imam until he finishes, it will be recorded for him that he spent the whole night in prayer. [Abu Dawood].

The blessed month of Ramadān is a great opportunity for goodness, blessing, worship and obedience towards ALLĀH.

It is a great month, a noble season, a month in which rewards for good deeds are multiplied and in which committing bad deeds is more serious than at other times. The gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the sinners’ repentance to ALLĀH is accepted.

We ask ALLAAH to make us of those who reach the blessed month of Ramadān.
