a potential husband who asks you to take off your hijab

Ladies, a potential husband who asks you to take off your hijab is not going to make a good Muslim husband or father.

In the past week alone, I have heard of three separate cases in which a practicing Muslim woman who observes hijab has been told by a potential suitor that he'd like her to remove her hijab for him to marry her.

SubhanaAllah. What is going on with such men?

Three problems that are often underlying issues with such a man:

1. He is weak in his deen, ie. he isn't a practicing Muslim. He either doesn't know that hijab is wajib, or he knows but doesn't care. He does not have the strength to obey Allah or respect His limits.

2. He is weak-willed and cannot withstand social pressure. He wants his wife to remove her hijab even though it's wajib, due to his fear of criticism from non-Muslims or non-practicing cultural Muslims. He doesn't have the determination, firmness, or integrity to stand up for what's right in the face of any sort of backlash. He is a soft, limp male ruled by fear.

3. He lacks gheera.

A real Muslim man whose fitra is sound and whose masculinity is strong will instinctively want his wife to be shielded from the gaze of strangers, protected from the eyes of other men. He will naturally possess gheera ( غيرة), which is masculine protective jealousy for his family. He will want to shelter his cherished wife, not expose her!

A male whose gheera is lacking is a dayyuth, and you don't want such male for a husband. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم has said that such a dayyuth will be barred from entering Jannah.

Ladies, watch out for this red flag while searching for a husband.

May Allah grant all Muslim singles upright spouses, righteous children, and beautiful marriages,

Ameen!
