Āyat Al-Ḥijāb: The Revelation of Hijab in Islam

Understanding Āyat Al-Ḥijāb: The Command of the Veil

This is Āyat Al-Ḥijāb

Sheikh Najeeb Ash-Shar'abi ḥafidhahullāh said:

"After the Prophet ﷺ married Zainab, Allah Almighty revealed Āyatul Ḥijāb. Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "I went to enter, but the veil was placed between me and him, as Allah Almighty revealed (interpreted meaning) {O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition}." This is the Āyah of Ḥijāb: {And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition}. When it is said, "Āyatul Ḥijab," this is what is intended. Some people think that Āyātul Ḥijāb is the Āyah in Surah Al-Aḥzāb where Allah Almighty says (interpreted meaning) {O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused}. Yes, this Āyah indicates the prescription of the veil and commands it, but Āyatul Ḥijāb is {And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition}, which explicitly mentions the Ḥijāb.

If this command is addressed to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ who are the noblest and purest women of the Ummah, then it applies even more to other women."

The Command of Hijab: Understanding the Quranic Verse and its Significance

The Importance of Hijab in Islam: A Quranic Perspective

THE COMMAND OF HIJAB

ALLĀH says:

O Prophet! Tell your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their jalābīb over their bodies.

This verse is the one that is known as the verse of hijab, in which ALLĀH instructs HIS Prophet (ﷺ) to instruct women in general to observe hijab, starting with his wives and daughters, because the instruction is more emphatic in their case than that of other women, and because the one who instructs others to do something should start with his family before anyone else, as in the verse in which ALLĀH says:

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَأَهۡلِیكُمۡ نَارࣰا وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلۡحِجَارَةُ
O you who believe, guard yourselves and your families against a fire whose fuel is men and stones... {At-Taḥrīm: Verse 6}

to draw their jalābīb over their bodies ˹when they go out˺

The jilbāb (singular of jalābīb) is an outer garment that is worn over the head cover, upper garment and so on; women should cover their faces and chests.

Then ALLĀH mentions the wisdom behind that:

ذَلِكَ أَدْنَى أَن يُعْرَفْنَ فَلَ يُوْذَيْنَ
this will make it more likely that they will be recognised ˹as chaste women˺ and will not be harassed.

This indicates that they could be harassed if they did not observe hijab, because if they did not observe hijab, it may be thought that they were not chaste, so men in whose hearts is a disease could harass them. Moreover, people might look down on them and assume that they were slave women, and anyone with evil intent might think little of them. Hijab deters those who have evil intentions towards them.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

#sadi #ahzab (33:59)

Ummul Mu'minīn, Ā'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) narrated:

"May ALLĀH bestow HIS Mercy on the early emigrant women. When ALLĀH revealed: "... and to draw their veils all over their Juyubihinna (i.e., their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)..." {An-Nūr: Verse 31} they tore their Murat (woolen dresses or waist-binding clothes or aprons etc.) and covered their heads and faces with those torn Muruts."

{Al-Bukhārī #4758}

"Asma, daughter of Abū Bakr, entered upon the Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) wearing thin clothes. The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) turned his attention from her. He (ﷺ) said: "O Asma', when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this, and he pointed to his face and hands.

Veil is much more than a piece of cloth

Veil (Hijāb)

You look at her and call her oppressed, simply because of the way she is dressed.
Undeniably you do not know that this is not just a piece of cloth that covers her.
For it is the declaration of her faith.
For it symbolizes her journey of devotion.
For it is the physical manifestation of submission to her Allah.
For it renews her commitment to her Allah.
For it is an act of obedience and righteousness.
For it is an expression of her chastity and modesty.
For it is her shield against the sins and evil temptations of this fleeting world.
For she is a jewel, and her beauty is not for everyone.

_Certainly, her veil is much more than a piece of cloth wrapped around her head; something far greater than the human mind can comprehend!_

The best women are those who do not see the men and who are not seen by the men explanation

The best women are those who do not see the men and who are not seen by the men”

-Fatimah ر ضي الله عنها in Akham An Nisa

 1. “Do not see the men”

What is meant by this statement are three things:

•These Muslim women do not look at men and they lower their gaze whenever a non mahram is around, so they “do not see the men.”

•These Muslim women do not free mix with non mahram men, and don’t attend events or gatherings where non mahram men will be in the same area as women, so they “do not see the men.”

•These Muslim women stick to their homes as Allah has commanded them to, and rarely leave their houses except when there is a necessity. That is another reason why they “do not see the men.”

 2. “Are not seen by the men”
This statement does not only mean women should just veil and that’s it, it’s much deeper than that.

In the time of Fatimah, many women adhered to the niqab, so this statement of hers does not necessitate that a woman who wears niqab is the best woman. Rather they are other conditions to be fulfilled, in addition to her veiling.

These Muslim women who “are not seen by the men” do not display themselves unnecessarily to non-mahram men, even if they are fully covered in the correct hijab.

They stay in their homes and only come out when needed, they don’t prance around in the streets, or stay outside all day for fun just because they have the niqab on.

Nor, do they stay at home, but then post pictures and videos of themselves online in niqab for everyone to see, save and share.

The Best Women adhere to the correct shar’iah hijab, and stay in their homes and leave when it’s necessary, they don’t willingly show themselves to non-mahram and because of this they remain to not be seen by the men and maintain not seeing the men.

The Importance of Covering the Face in IslamA Comprehensive Guide for Muslim Women

  • Misconceptions about covering the face

Sh. Salih Fawzan (may Allah preserve him) said:
*"The correct view as indicated by the evidence is that the woman's face is 'awrah which must be covered. It is the most tempting part of her body, because what people look at most is the face, so the face is the greatest 'awrah of a woman ."*

Importance of Hijab in Muslim society by Abū 'Abdirrahmān Yahya bin 'Alī Al-Hajūri

The Hijāb is honour and protection for the women and she becomes venerated and has value

By our Shaykh, the 'Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abū 'Abdirrahmān Yahya bin 'Alī Al-Hajūri - may Allāh preserve him -

"A woman who covers herself has honoured herself, protected herself and honoured it.

This hijāb is honour to the women and protection for her, and she becomes venerated. The chaste woman is awed, and she has value. You see some of the sinful women believe if she uncovers herself she will be a fitnah for the people, but the people loose interest in this uncovered one and they belittle her, they consider her fallen, she doesn't have value with them. And verily the point of benefit is that the protection of the women and the value of women is in her sticking to the legislation. So she has her religious dignity and her protection according to the level of her preserving her hijāb and her religion.

So this is an honour to the women, an according to how much she abandons these customs and values, Allāh disgraces her, she will have no status, and she will have no honour, and whoever Allāh disgraces none is able to honour. Perhaps you'll search for proposers to her and you won't find, and people look at her with a look of belittlement, and if she finds one she finds a sinful one who will bring about woes upon her, she won't find a righteous, recompense is in accordance to the action.

And that chaste one, with what she has of religion, Allāh facilitates for her one who will honour her, and she'll live an honourable life with a righteous man. All of this is from Allāh honouring the righteous person male or female.

And many of the sinful ones who expose themselves to corruption find bitterness in life, and being downtrodden and misery and a bad condition and humiliation and violation of honour and awaiting their downfall and feeling broken inside, she won't live a good life ever.

By Allāh the fornicators and also the women of fitnah and those who expose themselves to fitan don't find happiness in life as the religious chaste women find. Not from the males or the females.

"Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)."

[An-Nahl, 97]

And this has been mentioned by alot of women in the west and that they envy the women whose fathers respect her, then she becomes respected with her husband, then honoured with her children and her brothers and her family. So she is in honour and ovation throughout her life.

And that stressed and worn out one, she has work, in a state of misery. One time we went and found a women had a car accident at night and she was getting angry and raising her voice at the other one, why you hit my car from behind and the likes of that, there is no need for this. If it was a man she would have remained in the car protected, sitting well-mannered, and the one disputing with a man would be another man and the one communicating until they come out with a solution and they are in Khayr and Āfiyah. There didn't need to occur all of this. But no, they exposed the miskeenah and behold she goes and makes a licence and tires herself, and she goes and drives her car, she goes and gets hit, and shouting and she gets shouted at and is harmed, and from time to time she goes here an complains that this one harassed me and this speech.

There is no need for this, may Allāh guide you, stay in your house honoured, safety from Allāh,

"And stay in your houses"

[Al-Ahzāb, 33]

This is general,

This (is the pilgrimage for you); afterwards stick to the surface of the mats (i.e. should stay at home).

Likewise is the statement of the Prophet ﷺ;

"And the women would depart wrapped up in their woolen garments, being unrecognizable because of the Ghalas (darkness before dawn).

Ghalas and other than it, after the hijāb was revealed, the women used to go out as if they were crows. And this one come out disarranged in the car, everyone infront can see her and all those that look at her. Tiring for her the miskeenah, by Allāh they oppressed her, and this is not from her affair. And the religious chaste one passes by with her husband next to her driving or her son or her relative drives her, a princess, he drives her and escorts her, takes her for treatment, takes her for visits, wherever she wants, while she is an honoured princess. Rather than her driving and getting hit and shouting. Look at the difference between the one who obeys Allāh and the one who disobeys Allāh. This is oppresion. I bare witness to Allāh that it's oppression to women.

And that perhaps this action they are bringing about oppression unto themselves. The women is miskeenah, she needs looking after and being instructed, so if she is encouraged on oppression to herself and society she will oppress herself and society because she is as the Prophet ﷺ said;

"I have not seen anyone more able to remove the understanding of a prudent man than one of you."

"O Allah, I declare inviolable the rights of two weak ones: the orphans and women".

She has rights upon her guardians, upon her parents, her children, her husband;

I said: "O Messenger of Allāh, what is the right of the wife of one of us upon him?" He replied, "You should give her food when you eat, clothe her when you clothe yourself, not strike her on the face, and do not revile her."

Honoured!

"And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents."

[Al-Isrā, 23]

The legislation has provided for her in all her stages, and along with this granting of her permission to go to the Masjid, the legislation recommended her to stay in her home so that she doesn't go out for prayer. By Allāh her going out for prayer in congregation the reward is 27 degrees, is it more important or her going to the market to have lunch or going to work.

No doubt that if the legislation was granting permission for the going out of the women, it would of granted her permission to go out for every prayer an unrestricted permission without recommending her to stay in her house, and without it being obligatory for her to stay in her house if fitnah is feared. For verily if she fears fitnah she is prevented, or her being a fitnah for others. It has come via Ā'ishah;

"He would have definitely prevented them from going to the Masjid."

And verily this permission to go out for the prayer during the time of the Prophet is with the condition of no fitnah to her or from her, and with that;

"And their homes are better for them."

The prayer of a woman in her house is better than her going to the Masjid in congregation praying with the men. Except if nobody sees her and there is no fitnah. There's no fitnah or there is a path which is specific for the women and she goes up without any fitnah, this is a good affair. As for that then preventing the avenues of fitan.

This is added to the proofs pointing towards that her going out is not permitted in totality in everything as the men go out. Verily it is for affairs with their legislated guidelines.

As for what is related to her travelling from country to country, then I seek refuge with Allāh from fitan. This is even worse. From airport to airport, from country to country, "Where has the girl gone?" He says: "By Allāh she has a grant, and she's going to aquire a certificate, in such and such country", and perhaps he boasts about it in the sittings of Qāt, happy that his daughter travelled to the western countries by herself to aquire a certificate for such and such, and without a mahram, so she combines between uncovering the face and removing of the hijāb, and tabarruj, and travelling without a mahram.

"It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allāh and the Last Day to make a journey of one day and night unless she is accompanied by a Mahram."

And she combines between seclusion, because she is mixing with men by herself, she doesn't have a mahram, and she combines between wastage, by Allāh it's wastage;

"All of you are guardians and are responsible for your subjects."

Wasting of the ones whom Allāh has placed under your care,

"There is no slave whom Allāh makes in charge of subjects and he doesn't look after them with goodwill and sincerity, except will be deprived of the fragrance of Jannah."

He makes her go to waste. And she also combines between lack of mercy for the women;

"O Allah, I declare inviolable the rights of two weak ones..."

And she is weak, so he leaves the weak one on her own shoulders to go, harms occur to her and she is exposed to hazards, and she combines with that also with her becoming fatigued and with the fitnah of her, and all of this is on the conscience of the Waliy who doesn't take care of her. And the conscience of the women who don't pay attention to these important responsibilities, and the conscience of these organizations which waste her to these far distances to her detriment, fitnah and in her distancing from her religion."

Niqab Skincare Tips for Healthy and Glowing Skin

𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐢𝐪𝐚𝐛

Covering our faces when we go out does not mean neglecting skincare. Here are some tips to help you look after your skin under niqab:*

1. Make dua to Allah for your skin needs. Nothing is too small to ask Allah.
Aishah رضي اللّه عنها  said: “Ask Allaah for everything, even shoelaces because if Allaah does not make it easy for you to obtain it you will not obtain it.”
[Abu Ya’la 8/44]

2. Keep your skin clean: Wash your face regularly, at least once a day, using a gentle cleanser. This helps remove dirt, sweat, and excess oils that can accumulate on your skin.

3. Moisturise your skin: Hydration is key to maintaining healthy skin. Apply a moisturiser that suits your skin type after cleansing to keep your skin hydrated and prevent dryness. Look for non-comedogenic or oil-free formulas if you have acne-prone skin.

4. Use sunscreen (SPF) : Even though our face is mostly covered, it's still important to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 especially around your eyes as they are exposed to the rays of the sun. Failing to adequately protect our skin from the sun can result in hyperpigmentation around the eyes.

5. Keep your niqab clean: Regularly wash or change your niqab to prevent the accumulation of dirt, oil, and bacteria that can transfer to your skin and potentially cause breakouts or irritation.

6. Stay hydrated: Drink at least a 1-2l of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from within. Proper hydration contributes greatly to a smooth and healthy complexion.

7. Exfoliate gently: Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and promotes a smoother complexion. Use a gentle exfoliator and avoid over-exfoliating, as this can lead to irritation and over-sensitivity.

8. Practice good hygiene: Wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face unnecessarily to prevent the transfer of bacteria.

Remember, these tips are general recommendations. If you experience persistent skin problems, consult a dermatologist for personalised advice.

How Shaytan Seduces Muslim Women Into Abandoning the Hijab

The Dangers of Shaytan's Seduction

The Shaytān Seduces Slowly..

First, she begins to leave her home often,

Then she becomes bold and begins to interact with Non-Mahram men on a daily,

Then, she begins to wear bright coloured Jilbābs and Niqābs,

Then, her gloves are only an accessory for some occasions (she starts showing her hands),

Then, her Jilbāb slips back and she begins to reveal her forehead and eyebrows,

Then, she begins to style her outfits, matching her shoes/purses with the colour of her garments,

The plain eyes aren’t satisfying to her anymore, so now she uses cosmetics to enhance them,

Then, the Jilbāb disappears and now it's an Abāyah and a scarf,

Then, the Abāyah becomes flashy, adorned with laces and sequins,

Finally, the face is no longer hidden.

After this her style of dressing begins to resemble the women of the Kuffār, her interactions with Non-Mahram men become casual and even flirtatious, and leaving her home becomes a pastime for her to the point that she begins to loathe staying in.

Is this the way of a Muslim woman? Has she forgotten that Allāh says:

وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ

“And stay (firmly) in your houses and not display yourself like the display of the Jāhiliyyah before…”

Your Hijāb is not a fashion statement, sisters, nor is it an accessory that you do up in a way that looks nice. It's meant to be a COVERING for your accessories and adornment, so do not contradict it!

The moment you begin to think of how this colour Jilbāb would match those shoes & bring out the colour of your eyes, or that this purse goes well with that style, then be aware that this is the whispering of the Shaytān as he seeks to seduce you to go down his misguided path.

Your Hijāb should be simple and unadorned, and you should not leave your home unless you have a necessity.

Special cases when a woman can uncover her face Part 2

Special cases when a woman can uncover her face Part 2

VII – The man who has no desire

It is permissible for a woman to show in front of a man who has no desire what she can show in front of her mahrams, because he has no interest in women, and he is allowed to see all of that. Ibn Qudaamah said: “Whoever no longer feels any desire, because of old age, impotence or incurable illness, or because he is a eunuch, … or a mukhannath (the effeminate man or a man who has female hormones) who feels no desire, the ruling that applies to such a man is the same as the ruling that applies to mahrams regarding looking at women, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): ‘… or old male servants who lack vigour…’ [al-Noor 24:31], i.e., those who feel no desire for women.” Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “This is the one of whom women do not feel shy.” He also said: “This is mukhannath who is impotent (i.e., cannot have an erection).”

IX – Old women who are past marriageable age

Old women who are past marriageable age may uncover their faces and what usually appears in front of non-mahram men, but it is still better for them to remain covered.

X – Uncovering the face in front of kaafir women

The scholars have differed concerning how a Muslim woman should appear in front of kaafir women.

Moreover, hijaab between men and women serves a purpose that is not an issue in the case of a Muslim woman and a dhimmi woman, just as it is not an issue in the case of a Muslim man and a dhimmi man. Hijaab is obligatory when there is a text stating that it is so or the obligation may be understood by analogy; in the case of a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim woman, there is neither text nor analogy.

The aayah “… or their women …” [al-Noor 24:31] could refer to all women.

XI – Hajj and ‘Umrah

Women must uncover their faces and hands when they enter ihraam for Hajj or ‘Umrah. At this time, they are forbidden to wear niqaab and gloves, because the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The woman who is in ihraam must not wear niqaab or gloves.”

If a woman needs to cover her face because men are passing close by her, or she is beautiful and is sure that men are looking at her, she should drop a part of head covering over her face, because of the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah in which she said, “Riders were passing by us, and we were in ihraam with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), so when they came near, each of us would lower her jilbaab over her face, and when they went away we would uncover our faces again.”

Special cases when a woman can uncover her face Part 1

Special cases when a woman can uncover her face Part 1

These special situations may be summed up as follows:

I – Proposal of marriage

It is permitted for a woman to uncover her face and hands in front of a man who wants to propose to her, so that he may see them, without being alone with her and without touching her, because the face gives an indication of ugliness or beauty, and the hands give an indication of whether the body is slender or plump (which in turn gives an impression about fertility).

Abu’l-Faraj al-Maqdisi said: “The scholars do not differ as to the permissibility of looking at the face… the focal point of beauty, the place one looks at…”

II – Business dealings

It is permitted for a woman to uncover her face and hands when buying or selling, and it is permitted for the vendor to see her face when he hands over the goods and asks for the money, provided that this will not lead to fitnah – otherwise it is forbidden.

III – Medical treatment

A woman is permitted to uncover the site of her illness whether it is on her face or elsewhere on her body, for a male doctor to treat her, on the condition that her husband or mahram is present, and if she cannot find a female doctor. It is less serious for her to be seen by a doctor of the same sex, and she should not be seen by a non-Muslim doctor if a Muslim doctor is available. Also, she should not uncover more than the site of the problem.

It is not permissible for the doctor to look at or touch more than is necessary, because the issue is one of necessity and should not be exaggerated.

IV – Testimony

It is permissible for a woman to uncover her face when she is giving testimony in court, whether she is a witness in a case or is there to witness a deal, and it is permissible for the qaadi (judge) to look at her in order to know who she is and to protect the rights of all concerned.

V – In court cases

It is permissible for a woman to uncover her face in front of a qaadi (judge) who is to rule either in her favour or against her, and in this situation he may look at her face in order to know who she is and for the sake of protecting people’s rights.

The same rules that apply to giving testimony or bearing witness also apply in court cases, because they serve the same purpose.

VI – In front of mature boys who feel no physical desire

It is permissible – according to one of the two reports – for a woman to show in front of a mature boy who feels no physical desire what she shows in front of her mahrams, because he has no interest in women, and it is permissible for him to see all that.

a potential husband who asks you to take off your hijab

Ladies, a potential husband who asks you to take off your hijab is not going to make a good Muslim husband or father.

In the past week alone, I have heard of three separate cases in which a practicing Muslim woman who observes hijab has been told by a potential suitor that he'd like her to remove her hijab for him to marry her.

SubhanaAllah. What is going on with such men?

Three problems that are often underlying issues with such a man:

1. He is weak in his deen, ie. he isn't a practicing Muslim. He either doesn't know that hijab is wajib, or he knows but doesn't care. He does not have the strength to obey Allah or respect His limits.

2. He is weak-willed and cannot withstand social pressure. He wants his wife to remove her hijab even though it's wajib, due to his fear of criticism from non-Muslims or non-practicing cultural Muslims. He doesn't have the determination, firmness, or integrity to stand up for what's right in the face of any sort of backlash. He is a soft, limp male ruled by fear.

3. He lacks gheera.

A real Muslim man whose fitra is sound and whose masculinity is strong will instinctively want his wife to be shielded from the gaze of strangers, protected from the eyes of other men. He will naturally possess gheera ( غيرة), which is masculine protective jealousy for his family. He will want to shelter his cherished wife, not expose her!

A male whose gheera is lacking is a dayyuth, and you don't want such male for a husband. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم has said that such a dayyuth will be barred from entering Jannah.

Ladies, watch out for this red flag while searching for a husband.

May Allah grant all Muslim singles upright spouses, righteous children, and beautiful marriages,

Ameen!

Advice for sisters | Reminder for Hijab

Advice for sisters | Reminder for Hijab

Pardah/ Hijab, is not just a cloth. If you wear hijab

and talk to non mahrams... you're killing the whole

purpose of Pardah.

Pardah Reminder, Hijab quotes, muslimah advise, islamic reminder
Hijab Reminder

A chaste woman is the one who stays away from non

mahrams and don't talk to them unnecessarily.

Never talk to a non mahram when you're sad or

feeling vulnerable. You don't know what's in the

other person's heart. Even if there isn't anything you

don't know you might be causing Fitnah.

Why text brothers for asking doubts or for discussing

personal life or joking when you have plenty of

sisters to help you ?

Don't reply to any man. Doesn't matter if they want

help for deen related stuff. There are plenty of

brother way knowledgable than any of us. Men can

take help from men. You don't need to rescue them.

Hijaab gives the woman respect and dignity

Hijaab gives the woman respect and dignity

Allah Says (what means): {And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance.}

[Quran 33:33]

Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him)said in his Tafseer: “It means, stay in your houses and do not come out except for a purpose.” [End of quote]

If you go out for a need, then you should wear your Hijaab because Hijaab gives the woman respect and dignity that prevent dissolute men to get in her way.

It is upon the woman who fears Allah and the hereafter to stay away

It is upon the woman who fears Allah and the hereafter to stay away

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan حفظه الله said:

"It is upon the woman who fears Allah and the hereafter to stay away from what many of the women are doing today such as being lackadaisical with the hijaab and easy-going with wearing decorative garments when going outside and being lax with using perfume when going out of the house and intermingling with men and joking with them..."

[Taken from 'Four Essays On The Obligation Of Veiling' Chapter: Advice To Muslim Women by Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan, p. 72]

Ruling on Jackets and Jilbāb

Ruling on Jackets and Jilbāb?

The shoulders, chest, arms, and back of a Muslimah are all ‘Awrah that must be concealed.

Not just the skin, but also the shape & size. Wearing a jacket/coat over the Khimār instead of under it, defeats the purpose of the Khimār (to conceal the shape & size of the upper body).

(and to draw their veils all over their Juyūb)

“means that they should wear the outer garment in such a way as to cover their chests and ribs

so that they will be different from the women of the Jahiliyyah, who did not do that.”

[Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr]

Ibn ‘Abd Al-Barr رحمه الله said:

"Any garment that shows the shape and does not conceal, it is not permissible to wear it under any circumstances, except with another garment that does conceal and does not show the shape, for the one who wears it is in effect naked, as Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه said, and this is narrated from the Prophet ﷺ in the Hadīth of Abu Hurayrah.”

Garments for believing woman

Garments for believing woman

A group of women wearing thin garments entered upon ʿāʾisha (رضي الله عنها); she then told them:

“if you are believing women, then these are not the garments of believing women. and if you are not believing women, then enjoy these garments”

All of the women are to be covered (awrah)

Ibn Hibban collected in his authentic collection of Hadith the Hadith of 'Abdullah Bin Mas'ud ( رضي الله عنه); the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

"All of the women are to be covered (awrah). If she exits the [the house], the devil beautifies her. The closest she is to her Lord is when she is in her home."

Is it permissible for a woman to disobey her parents if they command her not to wear the 'abaaya?

The Jilbaab Is Worn From The Head, And The Impermissibility of the Shoulder 'Abaaya

Question:

Is it permissible for a woman to disobey her parents if they command her not to wear the 'abaaya?

Answer:

It seems to be apparent that you, O my daughter, are from the khalaeej (the Gulf States) if in fact you are not from Saudi Arabia. It is obligatory upon the Muslim woman to wear the Jilbaab. The jilbaab is an outer covering that conceals the beauty of a woman and her clothing; it covers her body from head to toe. This means that it covers the entire body.

As for the 'abaaya that is most popular in the Gulf States, then it has taken the place of the Jilbaab.

I say that if in your area the jilbaab is predominately worn by the people, then do not wear the 'abaaya. However, if in your area or country the people predominately wear the 'abaaya then do not obey your parents (i.e. wear the Jilbaab not the 'abayaa) as there is no obedience to the creation when it involves disobedience to the creator.

At this point I would like to clarify that the 'abaaya of the woman is be worn upon the head, and for her to wear it upon the shoulders is an error, even if some of the people of knowledge have given verdicts that the 'abaaya can be worn on the shoulders.

Verily, those who have given the verdict (stating) that a woman can wear the 'abayaa on the shoulders have only done so because they were unaware that the 'abayaa has taken the place of the jilbaab; and the Jilbaab is worn from the head.

Understand this, may Allaah bless you.
