5 Ways to Avoid Neglecting Prophet's Guidance
Most people are indeed unaware of the wrongs that can annul good deeds. ALLĀH says, ‘O believers! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak loudly to him as you do to one another, or your deeds will become void while you are unaware.’ [49:2].
This is a warning to the believers that even speaking to the Prophet (ﷺ) in the same loud voice they use among themselves can annul their deeds.
Now surely this is not apostasy, merely heedless disobedience and yet it annuls good deeds.
What then of the person who places less value on the directions and path of the Prophet (ﷺ) than on the directions and path of someone else? Has he not also annulled his good deeds unawares?
- Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya (رحمه الله)
[The invocation of God, pg. 10]
Here are some ways to avoid neglecting the Prophet's guidance:
- Study his life and teachings.
- Make an effort to implement his teachings in our own lives.
- Seek out the company of those who follow his example.
- If we do these things, we will be on the right path to Allah's pleasure and Paradise.
