THE COMMAND TO SLAUGHTER THE SACRIFICIAL CAMEL

THE COMMAND TO SLAUGHTER THE SACRIFICIAL CAMEL

ALLĀH tells:

وَالْبُدْنَ جَعَلْنَاهَا لَكُم مِّن شَعَايِرِ اللَّهِ
We have made sacrificial camels ˹and cattle˺ among the symbols of ALLĀH,

Here HE tells us that one of HIS rites is the sacrificial camels - and cows according to one of the two scholarly views. They are to be respected, and healthy and good specimens are to be chosen for the sacrifice.

لَكُمْ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ
in which there is ˹much˺ good for you.

that is, for the one who offers the sacrifice and others, as their meat may be eaten and given in charity, bringing benefit and reward.

فَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا
So mention the name of ALLĀH over them.

That is, at the time of slaughter, say: "bismillah (in the name of ALLĀH)" and slaughter them.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

#sadi #Hajj (22:36)

Anas (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (ﷺ) sacrificed two horned rams that were white speckled with black. He slaughtered them with his own hand, said Bismillāh and Allāhu akbar, and put his foot on their necks."

{Al-Bukhārī #5665}

Jabir Ibn Abdullāh (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) narrated: "The Prophet (ﷺ) sacrificed two horned rams which were white with black markings and had been castrated. When he made them face the qiblah, he said:

I have turned my face towards HIM. Who created the heavens and the earth, following Abraham's religion, the true in faith, and I am not one of the polytheists. My prayer, and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death are all for ALLĀH, the Lord of the Universe, Who has no partner. That is what I was commanded to do, and I am one of the Muslims. O ALLĀH, from YOU and to YOU, on behalf of Muhammad and his Ummah.

Then he said: Bismillāh' and Allāhu Akbar' and slaughtered them."

{Abū Dāwūd #2795}

"O ALLĀH, from YOU" means this sacrifice is a gift and provision that has reached me from YOU. "And to You" means, it is sincerely for YOU Alone. {Al-Sharh al-Mumti’ || Vol. 7 Page 492}

What are the days of tashriq

THE DAYS OF TASHRIQ

• The Days of at-Tashriq Are 11th, 12th & 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

Allah Ta'ala says in the Qur'an 2:203: "And remember Allah during the appointed Days."

These are the days of Tashriq. This was the view of Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنهم) and most of the scholars.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"The days of at-Tashriq are days of eating and drinking and remembrance of Allah."

📚: Sahih Muslim 1141 (2677, 2678)

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) delivered a sermon on the days of Tashriq (11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) and said:

"No one will enter Paradise but a Muslim soul (believer), and these days are the days of eating and drinking."

The Excellence Of The Day Of ‘Arafah

The Excellence Of The Day Of ‘Arafah

Allaah, The Most High states in His Book:

﴿وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُود﴾‏

❝And by the Promised Day [i.e. the Day of Resurrection]; And by the witnessing day [i.e. Friday], and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat [Hajj] the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah]…❞

[Qur’ān, Surah Al-Burooj, (2-3) | Translated By Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan]
-
From Abee Hurairah [رضي الله عنه] who said that the Prophet [ﷺ] said:

❝The Promised Day is: The Day of Resurrection; and the day which is witnessed is: the day of ‘Arafah; and the witness is: the day of Friday. And the sun has not risen nor has it set upon a day that is better than it. In it is an hour in which a believing servant does not coincide supplicating to Allaah for good – except that Allaah will answer him; and nor does he seek refuge from anything except Allaah will grant him refuge from it.❞

[Reported By At-Tirmidhee | Al-‘Allaamah Al-Albaanee: 'Hasan' In His Saheeh Sunan At-Tirmidhee, (No. 3339) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]
-

Ibn Rajab [رحمه الله] said:

❝Upon this basis; if the day of ‘Arafah falls on a Friday – then there is incorporated into that day the witness and the witnessed.❞

[Lataa-if Wal Ma’aarif, (Page: 375) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]
-

From ‘Umar Bin Al-Khattaab [رضي الله عنه] that a man from the Jews said to him:

❝'O leader of the believers; there is an Aayah in your Book which you read; if it had been revealed to the like of us Jews then we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid.' So he said: 'which Aayah is that?' he said:

﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإسْلامَ دِينًا﴾‏

«This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion» [Al-Maa-idah: 3]

So ‘Umar said: 'Indeed we know of that day as well as the place in which it was revealed upon the Prophet [ﷺ] - and he was standing at ‘Arafaat on a Friday.'❞

[Reported By Al-Bukhārī, (No. 45) | Muslim, (No. 7443) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]
-
From ‘Aisha [رضي الله عنها] who said that the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] said:

❝There is no day in which Allaah sets free more slaves from the Hell-Fire than He does on the Day of ‘Arafah.❞

[Reported By Muslim, (No. 1277) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]

What are the Takbīrs for the Day of ‘Eid and Greetings

The Takbīrs for the Day of ‘Eid and Greetings

It is from the Sunnah of ‘Eid to recite the takbīrs, and there is no specific restriction in time, and the men should raise their voice with it, but the women recite it to themselves (when in public).
It is recited in the night before the ‘Eid day and throughout the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah (which precede ‘Eid Al-Adhā). Allah, the Most High, said:

وَلِتُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُوا اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا هَدَاكُمْ

“Allah wants for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that to which He has guided you and perhaps you will be grateful.” (2:185)

It(Takbir) is recited aloud in the homes, the market places, in the mosques and in every place where it is permitted to mention Allah’s remembrance. On the ‘Eid day recite it aloud when leaving your homes for the outdoor prayer area (musallā).

It has reported by Ad-Dāruqutni and others from Ibn ‘Umar (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) that he would leave out on the day of ‘Eid Al-Fitr and Adhā and raise his voice with the takbīrs until he reached the place of prayer. Then he would carry on reciting the takbīr out aloud until the imām arrived.

Ibn ‘Uthaimeen (rahimahullāh) said: “The takbīrs of ‘Eid Al-Fitr begin from the setting of the Sun (maghrib) on the last day of Ramadān until the imām arrives to lead the ‘Eid prayer.” (Majmū’ Al-Fatāwā, 16/259)

The Description of the ‘Eid Prayer and its Takbīrs

The Description of the ‘Eid Prayer and its Takbīrs

A’ishah (radiyallāhu anhā) said: “In both Fitr and Adhā prayers, Allah’s Messenger would make seven takbīrs in the first rak’ah and five in the second ―and these were other than the ones for entering into rukū’.” (Abu Dawūd, no. 1149, authenticated by Al-Albāni)

Also, Katheer bin Abdillāh narrated from this father, from his grandfather who said: “The Prophet said the Takbir in the first rak’ah seven times before the recitation and in the last rak’ah, five times before the recitation.” (At-Tirmidhi, no. 536, declared sahih by Al-Albāni).

Based on this narration, Imām Al-Baghawi (died 516) concluded: “This is saying of the majority of the scholars among the Sahābah and those who came after them, that he would make seven takbīrs in the first rak’ah after the opening takbir of the prayer. In the second ra’kah, he would make five takbīrs after the takbir for standing, and he would say them before the recitation.
This has been reported from Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Ali, Ibn ‘Umar, Ibn ‘Abbās, Abu Hurayrah, Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri –and this is the saying of the people of Madinah, and it is the saying of Az-Zuhri, ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul-Azeez, Mālik, Al-Awzā’ee, Ash-Shāfi’ee Ahmad and Ishāq.” (See Sharhus-Sunnah of Al-Baghawi, 2/606)

Some of the scholars have stated (among them, Shaikh Al-Fawzān and Shaikh Ibn ‘Uthaimīn) that six takbīrs are said in the first rak’ah after the opening takbīr ―and after the opening du’ā but before seeking refuge and reciting Al-Fātihah.

The opening takbīr of the prayer is a pillar and cannot be left and the prayer is not valid unless it is said. The rest of the takbīrs (before Al-Fātihah) are Sunnah, not obligatory.

So after the opening takbīr, you recite the opening du’ā of the prayer as normal ―then the additional seven takbīrs are recited. Then straight after the seventh takbīr, you seek refuge with Allah as in the normal prayers because this is seeking of refuge before the recitation of Surah Al-Fātihah ―and Suratul-Fātihah begins with the bismillāh. After Surah Al-Fātihah, recite another Surah.

In the second rak’ah, stand up from the prostration (sajdah) with the utterance of takbīr.
After that, you recite a further five takbīrs, then the bismillāh, then Surah Al-Fātihah, then another Surah.

Which is best to offer as a sacrifice, a cow or a ram? | Eid Ul Adha QA

Which is best to offer as a sacrifice, a cow or a ram?  | Eid Ul Adha QA

Q: Which is best to offer as sacrifice, a cow or a ram?

A: Offering sheep as sacrifice is better; however, there is nothing wrong in offering cows or camels as sacrifice. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to offer two rams as sacrifice, and offered one hundred camels on the day of his farewell pilgrimage. What is meant is that he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) offered sheep as a sacrifice which is best, and he who sacrifices cows or camels- one seventh of a camel, and one seventh of a cow- they are all good deeds and there is no problem in doing so.

Sunnah of Eid Al Fitr and Eid AL Adha | Authentic Hadith

Sunnah of Eid Al Fitr and Eid AL Adha | Authentic Hadith

It is from the Sunnah to eat some dates before going out to pray on ‘Eid Al-Fitr ―and from the Sunnah of ‘Eid Al-Adhā is not to eat until after the prayer.
Buraidah (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) said: “The Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) would not leave home on the day of Fitr until he had eaten and he would not eat on the day of Adhā until he had prayed.” (Reported by Ahmad and others)

It is from the Sunnah to beautify oneself for the ‘Eid Prayer with the best garments one has due to the hadeeth of Jābir: “The Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) would adorn himself with a garment that he would wear on the two ‘Eids and on the day of Jumu’ah.” (Reported by Ibn Khuzaymah in his Sahīh)

It is reported from Ibn ‘Umar (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) that “he would wear his best garments on the two ‘Eids.” (Reported by Al-Bayhaqi with a good isnād)

Women must wear the correct hijāb over her house clothes according to the Sharī’ah―which is a khimār over which she wears a jilbāb. She does not apply make-up or wear perfume or high-heels in public.

Women must attend the ‘Eid prayer too. Al-Bukhāri (no. 971) reported from Umm ‘Atiyyah (radiyallāhu anhā): “We were commanded to come out on the day of ‘Eid and to bring out the virgin girls from their houses and menstruating women so that they might stand behind the men and say takbīr along with them and supplicate to Allah along with them and hope for the blessings of that day and for purification from sins.”

Menstruating women witness the prayer and enjoy the blessings of the occasion but do not pray.
She (radiyallāhu ‘anhā) also said: “Allah’s Messenger would order the virgins, the mature women, the secluded and the menstruating women to go out for the two ‘Eids. As for the menstruating women, they were to stay away from the musallā (i.e. from the prayer) and participate in the Muslims supplications.” One of them said: “O Messenger of Allah! What if she does not have a jilbāb?” He said: “Then let her sister lend her a jilbāb.” (Tirmidhi, no. 539)

TWO: It is the Sunnah to eat an odd number of dates before leaving home on the day of ‘Eid
A person should eat three, or five or a greater odd number due to the hadeeth of Anas (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) who said: “The Prophet would not leave out on the day of ‘Eid Al-Fitr until he had eaten some odd number of dates.” (Bukhāri).

THREE: The Takbīrs of ‘Eid
Abdullāh bin ‘Umar (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) said: “Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would say the takbīr on the day of Fitr from the time he left his house until he reached the prayer area.” (A hasan hadeeth) And Nāfi’ said: “Ibn ‘Umar would leave the home on the day of Fitr and Adhā and would say the takbīr out aloud until he reached the place of prayer. Then he would make the takbīrs until the imām arrived. He would make takbīr with his takbīr.” (Reported by Ad-Dāruqutni and others with a sāhih chain of narration).

Note: Calling out the takbīrs in unison as a congregation as one voice is an innovation (bid’ah) ―it is not established from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) or his Companions. What is correct is that each person makes takbīr individually. (See also Majmū’ Al-Fatawā of Ibn Uthaimeen, 16/288)

FOUR: It is a Sunnah to walk to the ‘Eid prayer
‘Ali (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) said: “From the Sunnah is to leave to the ‘Eid prayer walking.” Reported by Tirmidhi, who said: This hadeeth is hasan and most of the people of knowledge hold that this hadeeth should be acted upon. They held it to be recommended to walk to the ‘Eid prayer and not ride unless there is a valid excuse.

FIVE: Take a different route home from the one you take to reach the the Musallā
Jābir (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) said: “The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would take different routes on the day of ‘Eid.” (Al-Bukhāri)

SIX: If ‘Eid falls on the same day as Jumu’ah, then the one who prayed ‘Eid is not obligated to attend Jumu’ah
Ibn ‘Abbās (radiyallāhu ‘anhumā) narrated from Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) that he said: “The ‘Eids have come together on this day of yours, so whoever wishes not to offer Jumu’ah, the ‘Eid prayer is sufficient for him. But we shall offer the ‘Eid prayer, inshā’-Allāh.” (Abu Dawūd, 1073)

Ruling on Eid Prayer | How we should perform Eid Salah a short description

Ruling on Eid Prayer | How we should perform Eid Salah a short description | Sunah Of Eid

A short description of the Eid Prayer:

1 - The Eid Salaah consists of two Raka'ahs. Umar (radhi allahu anhu) said: “The traveler’s prayer is two raka'ah; the Adha prayer is two Raka'ah; and the Jumuah prayer is two Rak'ah; this is their full length as came from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam).” [(saheeh) Musnad Ahmad, Nisa'ee, Baihaqee and others]

2 - The Eid Salaah is not preceded by the adhan (the call to announce the prayer time) or Iqamah (the call to start prayer). Jabir bin Samurah (radhi allahu anhu) said: “I prayed the Eid prayer with Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), on more than one occasion, without adhan or Iqamah.” [Saheeh Muslim]

3 - No Sunnah prayer may precede or follow the Eid prayer, except if it is performed in a Masjid instead of a Musallah, in which case one must pray two raka'hs before sitting down. Ibn Abbas (radhi allahu anhu) reported: “The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) went out (of his house) on the day of Fitr, prayed two raka'hs and did not pray before or after it.” [Zaad al-Maad (2/443)]

4 - Like any other deed in Islam, the prayer must be preceded with a true intention of worshiping Allah alone in the heart.

5 - The first raka'h (one prayer unit) is initiated with Takbeer al-ihram, followed by the opening supplication.

6 - Then followed by seven Takbeers in the first raka'h and five more in the second rak'ah. Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anha) said: “Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) would say Takbeer in both Fitr and Adha: seven in the first and five in the second, other than the two Takbeers of Ruku (bowing).” [(Saheeh) - Abu Dawood (1150) and others]

7 - After the Takbeer one should recite Ta'awwuth - 'A'uthu billahi min ash-Shaytaan ir-Rajeem' meaning “I seek refuge in Allah from the outcast devil” and Basmallah 'Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem' meaning 'In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.'

8 - Followed by the recitation of Soorah al-Fatihah

9 - Then, the recitation of Soorah al-Qaaf in the first raka'h and the Soorah al-Qamar in the second - OR - Soorah al-Alaa in the first and Soorah al-Ghashiyah in the second. Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said: “Both of these have been authentically reported from the action of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), nothing else is authentic.” [Zaad al-Maad (1/443)] Note: Reciting a Soorah different from the ones mentioned above will too complete the prayer. The remainder of the prayer is performed in the same manner as any other prayer, without any difference.

The Eid Khutbah:

The Sunnah of the Eid Khutbah is that it should be delivered after the Eid Salaah. Ibn Abbas (radhi allahu anhu) said: “I attended the Eid with Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), Abu Bakr (radhi allahu anhu) Umar (radhi allahu anhu) and Uthman (radhi allahu anahu); all of them would pray before the Khutbah.” [Saheeh al-Bukharee]

Listening to the Eid Khutbah is not wajib , Abdullah bin as-Sa'ib (radhi allahu anhu) reported that he attended the Eid prayer with the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam); and when he (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) finished the prayer, he said: “We shall have a Khutbah; so let whoever wishes to sit for the Khutbah do so, and whoever wishes to leave, may leave.” [(saheeh) Abu Dawood)]

If the Eid falls on a Friday, it becomes optional for men to attend the Jumu'ah prayer. Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) reported that on such occurrence, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “Two Eids have coincided on this day of yours; thus whoever wishes, is exempted from attending the Jumu'ah prayer.

Yet we shall hold it.” [Authenticated by Shaikh al-Albanee in Irwa ul-Ghalil]

It should be noted that if one does not attend the Jumu’ah prayer, then it becomes obligatory on him to offer the Dhuhr prayer.

Eid celebrations are religious occasions, but the joy that occurs on the Eid, has made many people forget or become negligent of the Deen and Islamic regulations. Whilst enjoying and celebrating this great day of Eid one shoul

avoid celebrating the Eid in a way similar to the Kuffar, who overstep Allah's boundaries when they rejoice. They indulge in various acts of disobedience, such as mingling of men and women, wearing improper clothes, dancing, listening to music, drinking alcohol etc. Also, Muslims must avoid performing unjustified practices and Bid'ahs, like spending the night preceding the Eid in extended worship, visiting the graves etc. Finally, We ask Allah to give us the correct understanding of His Deen and make all our worships sincerely for His Face. Ameen!

Forgiveness of Past & Future Sins

Fasting on the day of arafah forgives past and future sins. Prophet ﷺ when asked about fasting on the day of Arafah, said, “It expiates the sins (minor) of the past year and the coming year.” (Muslim)

💎 Allāh ﷻ Releases Souls from Hell on This Day

Prophet ﷺ stated, “There is no day in which Allah sets free more souls from the fire of hell than on the day of Arafah.” (Muslim)

💎 It Is the Sunnah of Prophet ﷺ

Hafsah (RA), the wife of Prophet ﷺ said, “Four things the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never neglected: Observing fast on the day of Ashura, Arafah, three days every month, and offering Fajr Sunnah prayers early in the morning.” (Muslim)

💎 It Is the Essence of Hajj

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said “Hajj is Arafah.” (Nasai) This means that one’s Hajj won’t be completed if they don’t visit Mount Arafat. So, for those who cannot perform Hajj, fasting on the day of Arafah is a way of renewing their promise to Allāh ﷻ & committing to starting fresh.

💎The Religion of Islam was Perfected on This Day

On this day, Allāh ﷻ revealed to Prophet ﷺ “This day I have completed your religion for you, perfected my favour upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion.” ( Quran, Al-Ma'idah: 3) Hence, fasting on the day of Arafah is a way to celebrate this monumental occasion.

💎Is Fasting On the Day of Arafah Compulsory?

The Day of Arafah is one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar. Even though it’s not compulsory to fast on this day, it is highly recommended, especially for those not performing pilgrimage (Hajj).

Importance of first 10 days of Dhul- hijjah | Zul Hijjah importance | Islamic reminder

1st 10 days Dhul-hijjah:

● Good deeds are more beloved to Allah;

“There are no days during which good deeds are more beloved by Allaah than these (ten) days.”

The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, was then asked: “Not even Jihaad in Allaahýs way?”

He replied: “Not even Jihaad in Allaah’s way; except for a person who went out (for Jihaad) with his self and wealth and came back with none (i.e. lost all for Allaah).” Bukhari 969

Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “It appears and Allah knows best that good deeds practiced during these ten days are superior to any other ten days during any other month.”

● It’s recommended to be involved in a lot dhikr;

وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَعْلُومَاتٍ

“And mention the Name of Allah on appointed days.”

Hajj 22:28

Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “The majority of the scholars view the appointed days as the ten days of Dhul Hijah.”

● There is great virtue in Fasting on the 9th;

سئل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن صوم يوم عرفة فقال: “أحتسب على الله أن يكفر السنة التي قبله والسنة التي بعده،

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of of Arafah.

He said, "Fasting the day of Arafah expiates the [minor] sins of two years: a past one and a coming one”.

Muslim 1162
