What is the Characteristics of a momin (believer)
Who is believer
The believers stand in prayer when no one is awake.
They strive to do good works during the day.
Their heart is empty of the dunya and filled with the awe of Allah.
They are content.
Their eyes and their ears are set upon learning.
Their hope is in reclining in Paradise with the beloveds, and they fear the pain, chains, howling, stench, and fire of Hell.
Their needs from others are few, and they restrain themselves from the dunya. The dunya wants and seeks them, but they don't want it and they escape from it.
The people don't need to seek refuge from their evil.
Their neighbours and friends feel safe when they are around.
At night, they line up their feet in prayer and they recite the Quran.
When they come to a frightening verse, their bodies shudder and their hearts tremble.
When they come to a verse on Paradise, their heart hopes for it and their souls almost leave their bodies out of desire for it.
They are agitated by the grief of their sins, and they repent full-heartedly.
They use these nights to treat their ailments.
They weep. When they go to sleep, they think of the things they are grateful for.
During the day, they are wise, scholarly, pious, and sagacious.
They are not satisfied by doing few deeds, and they are not impressed by doing many deeds.
When they are praised, they fear what the people are saying and they repent for what the people do not know about them.
Compliments do not deceive them.
Their faith is in certainty.
Their determination is met with leniency.
Their knowledge is paired with humility.
Their intellect is forbearing.
They are moderate when they are wealthy, and they are elegant when they are poor.
The greatest gift they can receive is further guidance.
They expect death and they are busy in Allah's remembrance.
They make few errors.
They are not lazy.
They fight ignorance, lust, revenge, and arrogance.
They don't flaunt.
They don't reveal the secrets of others.
They forgive those who wrong them, they give to those who deprive from them, and they connect to those who cut them off.
They do not hate those who doubt them.
They don't scheme or plot.
They don't bring harm to those they love.
They confess to the truth before witnesses can be brought against them.
Their silence and their speech do not overwhelm others.
They make peace with others through speech and silence.
They do not covet their own belongings, let alone the belongings of others.
Others are at ease because of them, while they are troubled by their own nafs.
Their distance from others is not out of arrogance, and their closeness to others is not out of need.
May Allah make us like the righteous before us, so that we can be an example for the people after us.
