Praying in the late hours of the night and asking for forgiveness

And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants … the ones who pray for forgiveness in the late hours of the night. [3:15-18]

The late hours of the night is the best of time to ask for forgiveness from Allah. When the earth is still and everything is quiet. When there are no distractions to bother you or to turn your attention away from Allah. 

The Prophet (saw) has told us that this is the time when Allah specifically calls out to all of His servants and asks them if they want anything that He can give and He (swt) asks them if they want His Forgiveness so that they can forgive them. 

So take advantage of this special time. Pray to Allah (swt) for what you need and seek His forgiveness. Humble yourself before His Majesty and Glory and beg of Him like a person dying of thirst would beg for water. If you realized His (swt)’s right to be worshipped and served and you realize how much you have fallen short of it then this is how you would pray. Allah (swt) Knows that you are more in need of His (swt)’s Forgiveness than of your own sleep! 

May Allah (swt) make it easy for us to wake up and pray in the late hours of the night.
