Ibn Taymiyah summarized the issue of how to make the 'Eid takbir by writing:
The manner of the takbir that has been transmitted from most of the Sahabah and which has also been narrated as coming directly from the Prophet is:
Allah akbar
Allah akbar
La ilaha illAllah
w'Allah akbar
Allah akbar
wa lillahi'l-hamd
And if one were to say "Allah akbar" three times, that is permissible.
[Majmoo' al-Fatawa 2/369]
