HADITH ABOUT HANDS: GIVE CHARITY WHEN POSSIBLE
*Narrated Malik ibn Nadlah (Radi Allahu Anhu): The Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Hands are of three types: Allah's (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) Hand is the upper one; the bestower's hand is the one near it; the beggar's hand is the lower one. So bestow what is surplus, and do not submit yourself to the demand of your soul (Sunan Abi Dawud, Book 9, Hadith 94).*
*The ego and the soul may desire more but know that what you have is enough. Nobody can take away what is meant for you nor what has been measured out for you. Accept that and show gratitude and then see how your eyes open to the multitude of blessings before you!*
*The upper hand is better than lower hand. Means, giving charity is better than receiving. Generosity is way better than asking others. Alhamdulillah! There are simple things you can do which, with the right intention, can bring immense rewards.*
*Abu Hurairah (Radiy Allahu Anhu) reported that the Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The upper hand is better than the lower one. And begin (charity) with those who are under your care. The best charity is that which is given out of surplus. He who asks Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) to help him abstain from the unlawful and the forbidden, Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) will fulfill his wish. He who seeks self- sufficiency will be made self- sufficient by Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala)” (Sahih al-Bukhari).*
*Hakim ibn Hizam (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrated that the Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The hand which gives is better than which takes and start giving first to your dependents. And the best object of charity is that which is given by a wealthy person (from the money which is left after his expenses) [out of surplus]. And whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) will give him and save him from asking others, Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) will make him self-sufficient”. (Sahih Al Bukhari No. (1427) and Muslim No. (2433).*
*It was reported in Sahih Muslim on the authority of `Abdullah ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala),(Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) was sitting on the pulpit and talking about charity and abstention from begging, he (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The upper hand is better than the lower one, the upper being the one which bestows and the lower one which begs”. (Sahih Muslim).*
*There are also texts that prove the affirmation of the Hands of Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) from the Qur’an and authentic Hadith’s in the Sunnah. We affirm this Attribute of the Hand of Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) in a manner that befits His Majesty due to the saying of Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala): “And the Jews say, ‘The hand of Allah is tied up.’ Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. Rather, both His Hands are extended, He spends however He wills…” (Quran: Al-Mā’idah: 64).*
*Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported from Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu) the story of the debate between Aadam and Musa (Alaihis salaam) wherein Aadam (Alaihis salaam) said: “He wrote the Tawrāt for you with His Own Hand.” (Bukhari, no. 6614, Muslim, no. 80).*
*Abdullah Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu) said, “A Jewish Rabbi came to Allah’s (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) Messenger (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) and said, ‘O Muhammad, we learn that Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) will place all the Heavens on a Finger, the Earths on a finger, the trees on a Finger, the water on a Finger, the soil on a Finger and the rest of the creation on a Finger. Then He will say, ‘I am the King.’ So the Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) laughed till his pre-molar teeth became visible in affirmation of the truthfulness of the speech of the Rabbi. Then the Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) recited, ‘They made not a just estimate of Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection, the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand.
