Story of Sulh Hudaybiyyah | islamic post for WhatsApp | Daily Islamic reminders
When the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) made the treaty at Hudaybiyyah (i.e. Sulh al-Hudaybiyyah), in the letter of that treaty, the words began with; “Bismillāhi ar-Rahmān ar-Rahīm”, however Suhayl Ibn ‘Amr who was a mushrik from Quraysh at the time said, “We don’t know who ar-Rahmān & ar-Rahīm is, so wipe it out”, and upon this Rasūlullāh ordered ‘Alī Ibn Abī Tālib (رضي الله عنه) to wipe it out, and write “Bismika Allāhumma”.
Look at the beauty & power of the word “Allāhumma”. Some may think Rasūlullāh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) wiped out 2 glorious Names of Allāh, and that’s all there was to it, but this isn’t the case! Rasūlullāh substituted them with “Allāhumma” which means he now began his letter with every name of Allāh! — as this is what “Allāhumma” entails. Allāhu Akbar!
This example was used just to show how powerful the word “Allāhumma” is. However, the Sunnah of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is to say “Bismillāhi ar-Rahmān ar-Rahīm”, and not to add onto it. As “Bismika Allāhumma” was a specific exception for Sulh al-Hudaybiyyah, and this was before Suhayl Ibn ‘Amr became a Muslim.
