Khālid Bin Walīd VS Hurmuz The Battle of Chains | Islamic History
Khālid Bin Walīd Vs. Hurmuz
During Dhat al-Salāsil (Battle of Chains) the number of the Persians were more than 40,000 and number of the Muslims were only 18,000 yet the Persians tied themselves with iron chains so that they would not flee..!!
Khalid ibn al-Walid was the commander of the Muslim army and Hormuz was commander of the Persian army.
According to the customs, Persians believed that if the leader was killed or captured, the battle ended with the defeat of that particular army.
Hormuz wanted to kill the Khalid bin Al-Walid, so that the Islamic army would flee according to his belief.
So When the two armies met, he got off his horse and called Khaled to a duel, so Khaled got off his horse and advanced towards Hormuz.
But Al-Qaqa drew his sword and was prepared on his horse for any urgent matter.
When the duel began between them, the ten Persian knights chosen by Hormuz, attacked Khalid but within no time Al-Qaqa flew to the cavalry with his Arabian horse and killed five of the cavalry with lightning strikes and the rest fled.
As for Khālid, he overpowered his opponent and grabbed him by the neck and said to him:
"You are not worthy to die in the battlefield, the death of honor, because you do not know honor."
Then he slaughtered him with his sword, and the Persians were defeated in this battle.
