What to do if you have committed immorality or wronged yourselves

What to do if you have committed immorality or wronged yourselves

THE REPENTING SINNER

Allah ﷻ loves this quality

Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Imran

And those who, when they have committed immorality or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins.
[3:135]
Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه said "I was told when this Ayah was revealed, Iblis cried."

In a Hadith reported in the 2 Sahihs
Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said “A servant committed a sin and he said: O Allah, forgive my sin! Allah the Exalted said: My servant has committed a sin and he knows he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds him accountable. Then the servant returned to his sin and he said: O Allah, forgive my sin! Allah said: My servant has committed a sin and he knows he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds him accountable. Then the servant returned to his sin and he said: O Allah, forgive my sin! Allah said: My servant has committed a sin and he knows he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds him accountable, so do what you will for I have forgiven you.”
[Sahih Al-Bukhari 7068, Sahih Muslim 2758]

The ayah continues..

وَمَن يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ

And who can forgive sins except Allah?

وَلَمْ يُصِرُّواْ عَلَى مَا فَعَلُواْ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

And do not persist in what they have done, while they know.
[3:135]
Meaning, they repent from their error, return to Allah ﷻ before death, do not insist on error, and if they err again, they repent from it again.

NOTE:
In a Hadith the Prophet ﷺ said "The intelligent person is the one who keeps a check on himself and does actions that will benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who follows his desires and places false hope in Allah.”
[At-Tirmidhi 2459]

Meaning, He Sins and while Sinning he thinks that Allah ﷻ will forgive him so why not just go ahead and do more sins.
This is foolish to think anyone can outsmart the Lord of the Worlds.

Allah ﷻ will only forgive if you are sincere.

Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه reported: The Prophet ﷺ said:
“All of the children of Adam are sinners, and the best sinners are those who repent.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhi‌ 2499, Grade: Sahih]

May Allah ﷻ forgive our shortcomings and make us among the sincere.
 آمين
