A DEAD HEART

Dhikr Revives The Heart

Whoever does not remember Allah ﷻ, He is like a dead person.

The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who doesn't remember his Lord is like the example of Living and the Dead.

Allah ﷻ says in the Qur'an,

Is he who was dead, and We gave him life, and set for him a light, whereby he can walk among men
[6:122]
_
Dead here means, "A dead heart"

Ibn Kathir رحمه الله writes: This is an example that Allah has given of the believer who was dead, meaning, wandering in confusion and misguidance. Then, Allah brought life to him, by bringing life to his heart with faith, guiding him to it.
_
Then Allah ﷻ draws a comparison in the same ayah

like him who is in the darkness from which he can never come out
[6:122]
_
Allah ﷻ draws comparisons like this throughout the Qur'an!

Not equal are the blind and the seeing,

Nor darkness and neither light,

Nor Shade and the Suns heat

Not equal are the living and the dead.
[35:19-22]
_
Why?
Because the person far away, rejecting, turning away from Allah ﷻ and his obedience and remembrance has killed his soul and is averse to guidance.
_
The person who is in this state only seeks to fulfil his desires so his body is satisfied, while his heart is deprived of Noor and only absorbs the darkness of his actions eventually becoming completely black and dead.
_
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Verily, when the servant commits a sin a black spot appears upon his heart. If he abandons the sin, seeks forgiveness, and repents, then his heart will be polished. If he returns to the sin, the blackness will be increased until it overcomes his heart.
[Tirmidhi 3334 (Sahih)]
_
Engage in Dhikr of Allah ﷻ to keep your hearts alive!
_
May Allah ﷻ protect us from having a dead heart and keep our tongues wet with the remembrance of Allah ﷻ.
