The Power of Surah al-Fatihah: A Ruqyah for Healing

The Power of Surah al-Fatihah

Surah al Fatihah is indeed ar Ruqyah!

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah):

I was sick and used to experience excruciating pains.

The pain I felt was so bad that it would almost cut off my movement (stop me from being able to move, make me stop in my tracks).

So I would hasten to recite Surah al-Fatihah (several times) and rub it on the place of pain and it would relieve my suffering. It was as though the pain was a pebble and it fell off (the pain was removed so easily due to reciting Fatihah over it).

And I used to take a glass of zamzam water and would recite surah Fatihah over it several times and I would drink it and I found it to be a very useful and powerful/strength-restoring (remedy, better than medicine) of which I did not find anything like it in medicines.

(But on the condition that this remedy is affective) according to one’s strength of faith (eemaan) and good conditions of one’s yaqeen (certainty in it being a cure).

[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah), Madarij as-Salikeen, 1/58]

Surah al-Fatihah is the opening chapter of the Quran, and it is considered to be one of the most important and powerful verses in the entire book. It is recited in every prayer, and it is also used as a Ruqyah, or a supplication for healing.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The best Ruqyah is Surah al-Fatihah." (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Ruqyah is a permissible and encouraged practice in Islam. It is the act of reciting verses from the Quran or supplications over a person who is sick or afflicted with some kind of harm, in the hope that Allah will cure them.

There are many accounts of people who have been cured by the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah.Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) recounts how he used to recite Surah al-Fatihah over the area of his body that was in pain, and how this would relieve his suffering. He also found that drinking zamzam water that had been recited over by Surah al-Fatihah was a very effective remedy.

The reason why Surah al-Fatihah is such a powerful Ruqyah is because it contains all the essential elements of a supplication to Allah. It begins by praising Allah and declaring His greatness. It then asks Allah for His guidance, forgiveness, and provision. And finally, it asks Allah to protect us from all evil.

When we recite Surah al-Fatihah with sincerity and faith, we are essentially asking Allah for His help and mercy. And Allah is the Most Merciful, and He loves to cure His slaves. So if we ask Him for help in this way, He is certainly capable of answering our prayers.

There are a few things to keep in mind when using Surah al-Fatihah as a Ruqyah.

First, it is important to recite it with sincerity and faith.

Second, it is also important to make dua, or supplication, to Allah asking for His help and mercy. Finally, it is important to be patient and trust in Allah's ability to cure us.

If you are sick or afflicted with some kind of harm, I encourage you to recite Surah al-Fatihah over yourself or the person who is sick.

You can also drink zamzam water that has been recited over by Surah al-Fatihah. And make sure to pray to Allah sincerely and with faith, asking Him for His help and mercy.

I am confident that Allah will answer your prayers and cure you.

Here are some additional benefits of reciting Surah al-Fatihah:

  • It increases our knowledge of Allah and His attributes.
  • It helps us to remember Allah and to turn to Him in times of need.
  • It purifies our hearts and minds.
  • It protects us from evil and harm.
  • It brings us closer to Allah and increases our chances of entering Paradise.
