Lessons from Surah Yusuf: Trusting in Allah's Perfect Timing

The Story of Yusuf (عليه السلام): A Reminder to Trust in Allah's Perfect Timing

From among the most important lessons in Sūrah Yūsuf is that it took many years before Yūsuf (عليه السلام) was released from the prison he was so wrongfully placed. And many more years before he was reunited with his family. Sometimes the trials we face in life don’t disappear over a short period of time. Rather, ease is delayed to increase us in wisdom and patience, in certainty, trust and faith in Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى). How many times throughout life do we look back, and realise that hadn’t certain events and delays happened, we would not have reached destinations or met individuals that we are so thankful for today?

Sūrah Yūsuf, Āyāh 21:

وَٱللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

“...And Allāh has full power and control over His Affairs, but most of men know not.”

Here are some of the important lessons that we can learn from Surah Yusuf:
  • Allah has full power and control over His affairs. No matter what we are going through, we can be confident that Allah is in control and that He has a plan for our lives.
  • Even the most difficult trials can be used for our good. Allah can use our trials to teach us, to strengthen us, and to bring us closer to Him.
  • We should never lose hope. No matter how bad things seem, we should always trust in Allah's mercy and compassion.
  • We should be patient and persevere. Allah may not answer our prayers immediately, but He will answer them in His perfect timing.
