SUCCESS COMES FROM ALLĀH ALONE

ALLĀH said:

وَمَا تَوۡفِيقِىٓ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ

And my success comes only through ALLĀH.

That is, whatever I succeed in of doing good and whatever I manage to keep away from of evil is only by the help of ALLĀH and not by my own strength and power.

عَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُ

In HIM I put my trust

That is, I rely on HIM in all my affairs and I am certain that HE will suffice me.

وَإِلَيۡهِ أُنِيبُ 

And to HIM I turn.

In doing what HE has enjoined upon me of various acts of worship, and in growing close to HIM by means of all kinds of good deeds.

Based on these two things, a person’s well-being will be sound: seeking the help of his Lord and turning to HIM.

GREATNESS OF ALLAH ﷻ

 The Perfection of the Sky

➖➖➖

Allah ﷻ says in the Qur'an:

 وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًۭا شِدَادًۭا

 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens],

[78:12]

Meaning, the seven heavens in their vastness, loftiness, perfection, precision, and adornment with both stable and moving stars. 

_

Ponder over the perfection of the sky, how it is raised without any assistance! 

_

Allah ﷻ says 

 ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٍۢ طِبَاقًۭا ۖ مَّا تَرَىٰ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ مِن تَفَٰوُتٍۢ ۖ فَٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍۢ

 [And] who created seven heavens in layers. You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?

[67:3]

Meaning, look at the sky and pay close attention to it. Do you see any flaw, deficiency, defect or rifts in it? A challenge from Allah ﷻ.

 ثُمَّ اْرجِعِ البَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ 

 Then look again and yet again,

 

 يَنقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ البَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ

 your sight will return frustrated and weary.

[67:4]

_

Now ponder, what is more greater? 

The Sky or the Human? 

_

Allah ﷻ says 

 لَخَلْقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ خَلْقِ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ 

 The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know.

[40:57]

_

And finally, Ponder that despite being a great creation of Allah ﷻ, it obeys Him ﷻ,

As Allah ﷻ says 

 إِذَا السَّمَآءُ انشَقَّتْ

 When the heaven is split asunder,

This refers to the Day of Judgement.

 وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَ حُقَّت

 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

[84:1-2]

It will split on the order of Allah ﷻ, and it will obey because nothing overpowers the command of Allah ﷻ.

Ya Ibn Adam!

We are just weak humans created from sperm. We shall all die and perish. 

The sky does not crack nor does it falter, yet it obeys Allah ﷻ, unlike us! 

_

Ponder over the greatness of Allah ﷻ, that He is the master of all things, from the expansive sky to the tiniest of ant! 

_

So what stops us from His obedience?

Some of the scholars say the origin of Allāh comes from 'ilaah' as it means the one who is worshipped. Allāh (ﷻ) says in the Qur'ān:

 *أَلَمۡ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَسۡجُدُۤ لَهُۥۤ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡض وَٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ وَٱلنُّجُومُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ وَكَثِيرٞ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِۖ وَكَثِيرٌ حَقَّ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلۡعَذَابُۗ وَمَن يُهِنِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّكۡرِمٍۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفۡعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ۩*

*Do you not see that to Allāh bow down ˹in submission˺ all those in the heavens and all those on the earth, as well as the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, and all living beings, as well as many humans, while many are deserving of punishment. And whoever Allāh disgraces, none can honour. Surely Allāh does what He wills.*

[Al-Ḥajj 22:18]

Subhanallah! He is The One Who is worshipped by everything whether we see it or not whether mankind chooses to prostrate or not. Allāh (ﷻ) says in another verse:

 *وَلِلَّهِۤ يَسۡجُدُۤ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ طَوۡعٗا وَكَرۡهٗا وَظِلَٰلُهُم بِٱلۡغُدُوِّ وَٱلۡأٓصَالِ*

*To Allāh alone bow down in submission all those in the heavens and the earth —willingly or unwillingly - as do their shadows, morning and evening.*

[Ar-Raʿd 13:15]

How majestic is He (subhanallaah), He is The One Who is worshipped by all, whether in earth or in the heavens. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

_*“Indeed I see what you do not see. The sky is creaking, and it has every right to creak: there is not even the space of four fingers (in the sky), except that there is an angel who has lowered his head in prostration to Allāh”*_

(At-Tirmidhi 2312)

Some of the scholars also say the name comes from a root word 'Aliha' meaning to be dazzled whether due to extreme happiness/grief. No words can explain His majesty and no mind can encompass His perfection for those who know Allāh. Allāh (ﷻ) says:

  *وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِهِۦ عِلْمًا*

*they cannot encompass Him in their knowledge.*

[Ṭā-Hā 20:110]

*لَّا تُدْرِكُهُ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ*

*No vision can encompass Him, but He encompasses all vision. For He is the Most Subtle, All-Aware.* 

[Al-An'ām 6:103]

Allāh is the one who bedazzles, in amazement and in awe for the ones who know Him. The ones who don't know Him also are dazzled in anguish, and misery. Because we need Him in life more than food and oxygen for every second in our days.

Another meaning of the name Allāh is to seek refuge, which originates from the root word 'Aliha'. When you say لا إله الّا اللّه, it indicates you have no other option except to turn to Allāh, and it's one of the most reassuring facts to realise that your shelter is in Allāh (ﷻ). Who else forgives crimes, who else saves humanity from Shayateen, who else defends orphans and grants them rizq but Him. 

Sometimes Allāh puts us through trials to help us appreciate this magnificent name. He is Allāh, the greatest shelter for believers, a name that is realised and cherished when there is trouble in our life and all ropes are severed and only one remains, Allāh's rope. So we seek sanctuary, plead for assistance, and beg pardon from turning to others than Him. And at this point, we find a completely new degree of imaan and an unrivalled commitment to Allāh, all of which become more valuable than the resolution of the problem itself.

May All āh (ﷻ) guide us to understand His religion

Important thread about understanding Allah

Guys, here's a really important message I have been meaning to pen down, but I was afraid people won't take the time to read it. Please do:

When religions understand God, they fall between 2 extremes:

1) Anthropomorphism: This means that they make God 'human-like'. This is human nature. We relate with things that are human like. That's why Micky Mouse has hands and feet, and all are cartoons are human-like!

The Greek and Hindu gods are pretty anthropomorphic. Additionally, Christianity went a step further when they claimed that Jesus (a human) is God. 

Many people also think that God is like a man sitting in the sky.

2) Transcendence: This is the belief that God has no similarity to his creation, humans or otherwise. God is beyond time and space.

Allah Almighty says in the Qur'an: 

"There is nothing similar to him (42:11)"

This is a clear verse (Muhkam) through which we understand our Creator. Allah is beyond having a physical body and beyond being limited to a created space. 

To connect with us, He uses words that we can relate with. However, this does not mean that these things are similar to us So when Allah speaks about His anger, it isn't like my anger. When I get angry, I lose control and it clouds my judgement. Allah is beyond such weakness. 

When he speaks about Love, it isn't like my love. My love would make me impartial.

Similarly when the Qur'an speaks about Allah's 'yad' (normally translated as hand) or Allah's wajh (normally translated as face), we cannot and should not try to understand these

These are known as the Mutashabihat, and we believe in them but we don't go into them.

Verse 3:7 explains to us that we should not go into the Mutashabihat, and only those with crookedness into their hearts go into them. 

It's the Maturidi Aqidah and of the Salaf to leave these things as is while understanding that Allah is beyond His creations like time and space.

Allah does not have a physical body and is beyond our understanding! The rules of the world around us don't apply to him! 

Many Muslims, and Aetheists who attack religions (like Richard Dawkins) seem to believe that God is a man like figure in the sky. This is not our belief.

Malik bin Anas was asked about a Mutashabih aspect of Allah (the Istiwa):

"Istiwa is known. It's details are unknown. Believing in it is mandatory. Asking about [its details] is Bid'ah."

Understand Allah through his creations. But don't ponder over the being of Allah.

On the authority of Abu Dharr al-Ghifaree (رضي الله عنه) from the Prophet (ﷺ)from his Lord, that HE said:

“O My servants! I have forbidden dhulm (oppression) for Myself, and I have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.

O My servants, all of you are astray except those whom I have guided, so seek guidance from ME and I shall guide you.

O My servants, all of you are hungry except those whom I have fed, so seek food from ME and I shall feed you.

O My servants, all of you are naked except those whom I have clothed, so seek clothing from ME and I shall clothe you.

O My servants, you commit sins by day and by night, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness from ME and I shall forgive you.

O My servants, you will not attain harming ME so as to harm ME, and you will not attain benefiting ME so as to benefit ME.

O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all as pious as the most pious heart of any individual amongst you, then this would not increase MY Kingdom an iota.

O MY servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all as wicked as the most wicked heart of any individual amongst you, then this would not decrease MY Kingdom an iota.

O MY servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all to stand together in one place and ask of ME, and I were to give everyone what he requested, then that would not decrease what I Possess, except what is decreased of the ocean when a needle is dipped into it.

O My servants, it is but your deeds that I account for you, and then recompense you for. So he who finds good, let him praise ALLĀH, and he who finds other than that, let him blame no one but himself.”

◾The greatest action that brings one closer to Allāh◾️

Answered by our Shaykh, the 'Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu 'Abdirrahmān Yahya bin 'Ali Al-Hajūri - may Allāh preserve him - on the 22nd, Rajab, 1442H

📤Answer:

Tawhīd, worshiping Allāh alone. For in the Sahīh that; 

أن أعرابيًا أتي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال‏:‏ يا رسول الله دلني على عمل إذا عملته، دخلت الجنة‏.‏ قال‏:‏ ‏"‏تعبد الله ولا تشرك به شيئًا، وتقيم الصلاة، وتؤتي الزكاة......الحديث 

A bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allāh! Direct me to an action that if I do it I will enter Jennah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Worship Allāh, and don't associate anything with Him, establish the Salāt, pay the Zakāt"...the Hadith.

[Agreed Upon]

And in the Hadith of Mu'ādh, and it is an authentic Hadith;

That when a man asked this question it was said

‏لقد سألت عن عظيم، وإنه ليسير على من يسره الله تعالى عليه‏:‏ تعبد الله لا تشرك به شيئًا، وتقيم الصلاة، وتؤتي الزكاة

"You have asked me about a matter of great importance, but verily it is easy for one for whom Allāh makes it easy. Worship Allāh, associate nothing with Him in worship, offer As-Salāt (the prayer), pay the Zakāt... and he mentioned the rest of the Hadith, and then he said;

 ‌‏ألا أخبرك برأس الأمر وعموده وذِروة سنامه‏"‏ قلت‏"‏ بلى يا رسول الله، قال‏:‏ رأس الأمر الإسلام، وعموده الصلاة، وذِروة سنامه الجهاد” ثم قال‏:‏ “ألا أخبرك بملاك ذلك كله‏؟‌‏"‏ قلت‏:‏ بلى يا رسول الله، فأخذ بلسانه قال‏:‏ ‏"‏كف عليك هذا‏"‏ قلت‏:‏ يا رسول الله وإنا لمؤاخذون بما نتكلم به‏؟‏ فقال‏:‏ ثكلتك أمك‏!‏ وهل يُكب الناس في النار على وجوههم إلا حصائد ألسنتهم‏؟‌‏"‏

"Shall I tell you of the root of the matter, its pillar and its highest point?" I replied: "Yes! Certainly, O Prophet of Allāh." He said, "The root of this matter (foundation) is Islām, its pillar (mainstay is) As-Salāt (the prayer) and its highest point is Jihād (fighting in the Cause of Allah)." 

Then he asked, "Shall I tell you of that which holds all these things?" I said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allāh." So he took hold of his tongue and said, "Keep this in control." I asked: "O Messenger of Allāh! Shall we really be accounted for what we talk about?" 

He replied, "May your mother lose you! Will the people be thrown on their faces into the Hell except on account of their tongues?"

So the greatest action that brings one closer to Allāh is the Tawhīd of Allāh, and the proofs of that are many.

How to bring the love of Allah in the heart

Bringing about the Love of Allah in the Heart

1) Recitation of the Qur’an with reflection and understanding of it.

2) Seeking closeness to Allah by performing voluntary deeds after performing obligatory ones. For that leads one to the highest levels of Love.

3) Remembering Allah during every situation with one’s time, heart and deeds – the proportion of this Love is in proportion to the Dhikr.

4) Preferring what He loves over what you Love when the desire is strongest.

5) Allowing the Heart the time to reflect on His Names and Attributes.

6) Reflecting on His many favours and blessings – both dhahir (apparent) and batin (hidden) ones – for that leads to His Love.

7) Having your Heart soften as you worship Allah.

8) Being Alone with Him in worship as He descends – during the last third of the night – in beautiful adab (manners) and then to end that with istighfar (asking for forgiveness).

9) Sitting with those who are truthful in their love of Allah.

10) Staying away from all things that leads to making barriers between the Heart and Allah.

Who is Allah?

If all those in His heavens and on His earth, human beings and jinn, living and dead, were to assemble in one place and ask Him, and He gave each one of them what they asked for, this would not decrease what He has by even an atom’s weight.

He is the First before whom there is nothing; the Last after whom there is nothing. He is the most High, and there is nothing above Him; the most Near and there is nothing closer than Him. He is the most Blessed and Exalted. He is the most worthy of being worshipped and remembered. He is the most deserving to be thanked and praised. He is the most compassionate of kings, the most generous of those who are asked, the most forgiving of those who have power, and the most just of those who take revenge. With His knowledge comes wisdom; with His might, His forgiveness and with His withholding, His wisdom.

Al-Jabbar: Mending the Broken Heart

In our journey to gain tranquility of the heart, we explored what we needed to know when faced with difficult situations. We need to understand that Allah has told us we will be tested, that these tests are for a reason, and that there will be relief insha’Allah (God willing). When we are worried about the future, we need to work hard but have full trust in Allah that He will not leave us, and we must always think well of Allah because that is what we will find.

Yet in certain circumstances we just feel… broken. Perhaps it is the death of someone close, perhaps a hurtful word, or perhaps a reason we cannot pinpoint. Yet this feeling of brokenness can be an invitation to be better acquainted with al-Jabbar.

But isn’t al-Jabbar one of the Names that indicates Majesty and Strength, not Mercy and Beauty?

The example of the Prophet ﷺ is a beautiful one. Imagine being 50 years old, having just lost both your wife of twenty-five years and your uncle who took care of you as a child. Imagine walking into a town in order to ask people for their protection, and instead have them throw stones at you until your feet bleed. How would you have felt? How exhausted, both spiritually and physically, would you have been? And yet, the Prophet ﷺ calls out to Allah in one of the most beautiful and heartfelt dua’ (supplication):

 “O Allah! To you alone I complain about my weakness, my scarcity of resources, and the humiliation I have been subjected to by people. O Most Merciful of those who have mercy! You are the Lord of the weak, and You are My Lord too.

To whom have you entrusted me? To a distant person who receives me with hostility? Or to an enemy to whom you have granted authority over my affair?

But as long as You are not angry with me, I do no care, except that Your favor is a more expansive relief to me. I seek refuge in the light of Your Face by which all darkness is dispelled and every affair of this world and the next is set right, lest Your anger or Your displeasure descend upon me.

Yours is the right to reproach until You are pleased. There is no power and no might except by You.”

Read those words carefully. The dua’ of the Prophet ﷺ was not “O Allah, please give me x and y.” It was literally the call of someone broken– complaining to Allah of his situation and expressing to Allah how he felt. What did Allah give him? A young boy by the name of Addaas saw the Prophet ﷺ, came to him with some grapes and kissed his bleeding feet. That is al-Jabbar. Imagine how the Prophet ﷺ must have felt after that, the relief he must have felt after the cruelty he was subjected to. And al-Jabbar healed the broken heart of the Prophet ﷺ in another way – He bestowed upon him the miraculous journey of al-Israa wal Mi’raaj (when the Prophet ﷺ traveled from Makkah to Jerusalem, and from Jerusalem to the Heavens in one night).

If we think about the journey, it did not accomplish a great victory nor did it help to convince the Quraysh that he was a Prophet. Rather, Allah honored him after all the hardship he had gone through. Think of the resolve the Prophet ﷺ must have had in his heart and the tranquility he must have felt after such an experience.

Therefore, we have to always remind ourselves of this blessed name al-Jabbar; Allah will mend your broken heart. It may be through a kind word from someone that brightens your day or it may be a talk that you attend. It may even be something greater. But call on Allah like the Prophet ﷺ did, recognizing this attribute, and know that He will manifest this Name in your life.

An Early Paradise: A Heart Attached to Allah

A life in which your heart is attached to Allah (ʿazza wa jall) is truly special. A saint of Allah said, “There are times when I say: if the people of Paradise have anything like this, then how blissful must their lives be!”

Another stated, “There are times when the heart bursts in joy (out of the love for Allah).”

After quoting the above, Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullāh) writes, “Glorified is the One who lets His slaves witness His Paradise well before they meet Him, who opens its doors to them in this world of deeds; and who gives them some of its joy, its breeze and its perfume, so that they may seek it and hasten towards it with all their strength.”

“Truly in the heart there is a certain loneliness that cannot be removed except by spending time with Him in solitude. 

In it there is a sadness that cannot be removed except through the happiness of knowing Him and being true to Him … In it there is a void that cannot be filled except through loving Him, turning to Him constantly, always remembering Him, and being sincere to Him. Were a person to be given the entire world and everything in it, it would never fill this void.”

Al-Fattah | Alllah name explanation 

In Arabic, the word “Fataha” means, “to open something closed”. Your relationship with Allah’s Divine name “Al-Fattah” (the Opener of the gates of profit and sustenance) is that whenever a gate is closed in your face, you should remember this Divine name and ask Allah to open it for you. Therefore, none among His creation, including Jinn or anyone else, has any knowledge of it, except what Allāh reveals to whomsoever He wills, from among His Angels or His Messengers.”

Fear of Allah for a momin 

Al-Hasan Al-Basree once said, 

“Men (before) used to forbear shedding their tears whenever their tears began to well up (from their fear of Allaah), & if they feared they would be unable to conceal their tears from being noticed by others, they would leave the place so that no one could see them.”

[Kitaab Al-Lataa’if Fil-Waa’iz, by Ibn Al-Jawzee, p. 86]

SubhanAllah reading this quote got me thinking our state today. How many of us fear Allāh ﷻ to the point we have tears coming down? Reminder to myself first. We live like there is no consequences for our bad deeds. It’s scary when you read the quote then you look at yourself & feel no fear at all.

May Allāh ﷻ guide us all & increase us knowledge.

Carry your broken heart to the prayer mat in the secrecy of the last third of the night, and reveal it to the One who comforts and mends broken hearts. يا جبّار

Ya Jabbar!! 

Some of the great scholars would supplicate “Ya Jaabir kul kaseer” when they were faced with overwhelming difficulty, meaning “Oh You who mends everything that is broken.” 

The Arabic word for a splint that is used to help an arm heal when it is broken is “jibeera” from the same root ja-ba-ra. Thus, when we feel broken, we need to go to the only One who can mend our state–Al-Jabbar. 

Allah has named Himself al-Jabbar and given Himself this attribute; you cannot go to the One whose attribute is mending what is broken, and not be healed by Him.

Khushūʿ is one of the easiest and quickest routes to attaining the pleasure of Allah. One of the pious predecessors said, “I have tried coming closer to Allah by entering all the doors of worship. But every time I came close to a door, I found that it was crowded with people; thus, I was unable to enter until I approached the door of humility and desperate need for Him. I found that it was in fact the nearest and widest of all doors to Allāh; there were not any crowds at it nor were there any barriers. As soon as I placed my foot inside, He took my hand and admitted me inside.”

What should we do when bad thoughts come about Allah

WHEN BAD THOUGHTS COME TO YOU ABOUT ALLĀH 🔥

If ever such statements come to your mind, or you hear people saying this: “Allaah can’t do a thousand things”, or any other statements which harbors bad thoughts about Allaah or attributes weakness to Him, then:

🌟1) Seek Allaah’s refuge from such thoughts or statements by saying: أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

🌟2) Reaffirm your faith in Allaah and His Messenger by saying: آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ

🌟3) Distance yourself from such thoughts and avoid the company of such people who say this.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

❝The Shaitaan (Satan) comes to every one of you and says: ‘Who created this and that? till he questions: Who created your Lord?’ When he comes to that, one should seek Allaah’s refuge and keep away (from such idle thoughts).❞

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

❝People will continue to question each other till this is propounded: ‘Allaah created all things but who created Allaah?’ He who found himself confronted with such a situation should say: “I affirm my faith in Allaah and His Messenger”.❞

Abu Hurairah reported: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said to me: 

❝They (the people) till constantly ask you, O Abu Hurairah, (about different things pertaining to religion). They would say: ‘Well, there is Allaah, but after all who created Allaah?’❞

He (Abu Hurairah) narrated: Once we were in the Masjid that some of the Bedouins came there and said: Well, there is Allaah, but who created Allaah? He said: I took hold of the pebbles in my fist and flung at them and remarked: Stand up, stand up (go away) my friend (the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) told the truth.
